my opinion those batter operated toys are a waste of money.

If you have an ATV (and even if not), get him a 90cc youth REAL gas ATV. You can find them used for 1500-1700 bucks in real good shape only a few years old in like new condition.  Plus, they won't outgrow it until age 12 unlike a battery operated powerwheels vehicle they will outgrow by age 7.

Then, if kept in good shape say in 5-6 more years,  you can sell it for near 1500 bucks still and only be out a few hundred bucks but those 300-400 bucks is not much in a 6 year period.  You can idle the set screw down on those ATV's so they only go 12 mph or so vs. top speed of most being 33 mph. 

I bought a 2006 can am ds90 youth atv in 2007 carryover model for 1800 bucks when kid was age 7.  Sold it last year age 12 drove over 1000 miles on it easily on the ATV trails with me for 1500 bucks.  Best 300 bucks spent on a toy over 5-6 years.

, I hear you. 4 is pretty young, we got our grandson a real 4 wheeler when he was 5. He just couldn't safely ride it no matter how much he wanted to. He's 8 now and is able to but that was 3 years of him having to look at it whenever he went to the garage. But to answer your question I've never seen anything but the HD battery operated ones. But he probably won't care, he'll be too busy having fun to notice

Yah, 4 is too young for a real gas atv, but 5-6 is not depending on the child of course.  Remember, you can power the set screw down to at most 12 mph which is still pretty fast but he'll learn real fast how to handle it I bet vs. an battery piece of plastic that goes 6 mph top speed. 

If going battery route,  consider a 2-seater so him and his girlfriend can go out cruising.  I personally think they are a waste of money though at least for my kids when they were younger they were both driving a bicycle without training wheels BEFORE they were 3 years old, but stubborn just like me and both were still in diapers couldn't sit still long enough to go poddy.

He is big enough to ride a 50cc bike.   Yamaha has a electric start ttr 50 and has training wheels if needed.   You can adjust throttle to keep speed down.  Bike are also a lot safer than 4 wheelers.  Check out Craigslist,   Can usually find good used ones pretty reasonable.    Good luck..

I do not think he is mature enough for anything with power behind it yet. 5 is kind of young IMHO for a motorized vehicle.  After seeing him with a piece of watermelon yesterday I am sure of it. Nice wheels on the other board.
