removing front fender on 97 standard

i want to drill into my front fender  on my valk.. clymers says I have to remove the wheel. I don't believe this is true. any one removed the fender? thanks

Many times! Are you putting on chrome fender trim?

If you are putting that fender bumper on, put a piece of wood between the fender and the tire and drill away.

Oh yeah, when ya hit the wood, stop drilling.

I am, but I also want to put on an eagle ornament that has running lights for eyes....seems removing fender is the best way to run the wire. is it easy to remove? ???

Pull the front wheel, take out 4 bolts and presto, it is on the ground.  Putting it back on, for Lord's sake, don't snap a bolt off.     If ya do, then ya has to pull that leg to get the other piece out.

Right, BUT, I like to do things the easy way.......

Don't like to spend an hour trying to work around something when I can pull a part or 2 off and complete the job in 15 minutes.

put a jack stand under the high side of your engine guard with a couple of inches of clearance. set a second one on the kickstand side at the same height, rock the bike up and use your foot to slide it under the guard. will be more than high enough to pull the frt tire. no lift required.

no lift or jack needed:
put a soft towel or cloth over the fender, (mid to rear part)
remove the 4 bolts holding the fender,

gently squeeze the bottom part of the fender and 'roll' it over the tire to the front.
the towel helps to make sure you don't scratch your fender on the forks.

that sounds the easiest thanks I'll try this
