I just got my new Rivco center stand. Install advice?

Hey Guys,

I just got my new Rivco center stand and have looked at the shop talk on installing it. Besides crushing the tube and carefully lifting the bike is there anything else I need to look out for? Can you add a sleeve to the tube around the bolt to prevent crushing? Sort of like when they bolt on plastic panels. I can see where this would be a weak spot when rocking the bike up and down on the stand over time.

I bolted mine on directly as instructed, been on there since the Paducah InZane with nary a problem. Now when you service the rear end, you'll only have to set it up on the centerstand. No need to jack it nearly two feet in the air.

Same as John for me. I did make the spacer bar that allowed me to keep the center stand engaged as I installed it.
I tried to do it by myself at first but had a hard time holding everything in place to get the bracket bolts started. After getting a little help, it was much easier.

I also don't see the need for any re-enforcing as long as you don't overtighten the clamps.

You might have to bend your kickstand thingey a tad for clearance. And don't forget to set your stop so the centerstand rests just below your exhaust by about 1/2-3/4 inch or so.

Just curious, is the centerstand you just got from the new Rivco production run?

Yes this is from the new production run. It also came with grab rails for both sides. I will try to get it installed this weekend and post some photos. I wanted it so I could if needed change a tire on the road.

I had read before that some had problems with it loosing up after a time and then after tighting it back up would crush the tube. Also some said that it would touch the ground before the foot pegs. I will check for that too.

If adjusted correctly (like wiggy says), this is not an issue.

Mine has been on the bike for nearly 10 years, through 4 owners, none of us have had any issues with it.

Unless you put her over like SmokinJoe from TN does on the Dragon.

He is the only one I ever heard of dragging the center stand.

And pictures showed that his stand had been adjusted lower than normal, to accomodate his Cobra Pipes (6 in to 6 pipes, whatever the brand).

As has been said, the center stand will not be the first hard part to touch, if adjusted correctly.  Rivco makes a good product, and does not deserve a bad rep because of an install error.
