Wow what a welcome from the VRCC

I just wanted to say thanks for all the warm welcome messages and well wishes from you guys here. I have been doing a lot of reading on the old tech board and I can see where this is a great place to get some real help from real people.  I will be picking up my bike from my dad at the end of July. Then the projects will begin. I know I need to desmog it cause it had California emissions on it and we also believe it has a broken starter gear. I am hoping to fix that without tearing the whole engine out.  Looking forward to the challenge, but I'm sure I'll be pulling from the wealth of knowledge here at the VRCC.  Thanks again for the warm welcome to the club.

Don't be so sure on the California emissions.  Mine is a California bike, never desmogged and runs just fine with mileage (35 to 41 depending on my speed) as good as any other bike.   How did I get a California bike in Texas?  Long story but I bought it new and never lived in California.

Now, the starter gear, that's another story.  Sounds like this bike may have been hydrolocked and to repair that will require pulling the motor.  Hopefully, you can find a group near you who conduct wrench parties to help with that part.

A hearty welcome from Washington state. Glad to have ya aboard. While you are fixing the broken gear, you might want to fix or replace the petcock, and go thru the carbs (takes both not working correctly to cause hydrolock). I'm sure you'll be able to find some local's willing to give you a hand with your new lady.
