Well, I tried to embed this video from my recent vacation into my post but no joy. It's a clip of a short road with fantastic vistas, it's paved, but is barely wider than my trailer. Thank God it's one-way. The initial assent is a first gear grade but that doesn't come through in the video. I'm curious about how many can identify the road?

No idea where that road is, but I want to ride it! Enjoyed every second of that video, thanks for sharing! I live in Idaho and it looks to be out west here. Colorado perhaps? Loved the rock formations.
So, where was this? Inquiring minds want to know!!

Red Diamond

I'd say you and your passenger are brave people, so is the other couple, butt puckering just for me to look at the vid. Thanks for sharing, but I would also like to know where it is. You may be the only one who knows, since I have never seen this before.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Skyline Drive just west of Canon City, CO.  I did a couple videos of it on youtube.  That's Misfit in front. EDIT2 Heroes & Valkyries on Skyline Drive Colorado

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner. Indeed it's Skyline Drive. It's a beautiful but butt puckering drive for sure. It was the best thing going in Canyon city as everything burned last year at the Royal Gorge. Something like 48 of the 52 tourist attractions at the gorge were destroyed including the incline train, cable cars etc. It will re-open this August, or so they think.

MarkT

Actually it's Canon City, 44.9mi SW of Colorado Springs from Ft Carson to the drive entrance, via Hwy 115 & Hwy 50.  The Entrance is 2.7mi after Hwy 50 makes the sharp turn N just W of Canon City.  In the videos, that's Canon City on the left side of the ridge.  Spectacular drive.  And usually not very busy.

It must be frustrating to have a city name that's not computer/Internet friendly. The spelling is Cañon which is pronounced Canyon. The good news is that Google recognized both.

Skyline Drive is one of many unique rides around Colorado.  Many are equally, if not more challenging especially when throwing in the oncoming traffic factor.  It makes for some of the best riding anywhere, but tourist traffic gets thicker every summer.  I've lived here pretty much all my life.  It's definitely not "the great unknown" anymore.   :-\

I also enjoyed your video. Nicely done with great choice of music. I must say, your wife is a trooper. My wife would have been freaking out, especially with dropoffs on both sides.

Great camera location on the trailer.  Never have seen video from that vantage point.  Thanks for the post - will put this on my "bucket list".

+1 on all points made.

Great video, liked the vantage point as well.

Haven't been on that road, will have to remedy that.

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, Skyline drive in Canon City, Colorado I live five blocks from where you exit. The rock formation it is built on is called the "Hog Backs", Always fun to take Flatlanders over it, gives them a thrill! Royal Gorge Park is being rebuilt from last years fire, suppose to re-open in August, Also the original Old Max prison butts up to the Hog Backs as you leave town heading west. Lots of nice rides out of Canon City, Look me up if you ever come this way!

I wasn't sure how the video would work from back there. I used the 1.5 inch "C" sized Ram Mount hardware to get it as steady as I could. It's clamped to the tubular back bumper of my Piggybacker and is about 18" tall. The camera is a Drift Ghost-S with an RF remote on the handlebars.

Part A of my over-Winter plan is to add a remote panning motor to the camera mast that I can control 360° as I drive. Part B of the plan includes a self leveling axis to better show the grade of the road. I'll be happy if I get either part done.

Very nice, we will be spending time in Colorado next summer.

I recognized it from MarkT's post a few months ago

Great road, great video, great vantage point, great wife :cooldude:

Thanks for the great comments, guys. The songs are "What a Wonderful Life" Louis Armstrong, "Marie" by Tommy Dorsey and "Sing Sing Sing" by Benny Goodman. All great big-band stuff.

And a correction for the record - my wife chickened out on the 2,700 mile trip to which my daughter eagerly accepted the invitation when it was extended to her. My daughter is a great and fearless passenger as you can see. She just graduated from college and is about to begin her graduate studies in Little Rock, Arkansas. This vacation was a great stress reliever and it was a great father/daughter vacation that will be cherished forever.

Please say hi to the folks at Alpine Inn in Gunnision! Clean, affordable place that's motorcycle friendly. As we used to say to Florida tourists "Thanks for coming, NOW GO HOME!!"

I see....that's a great bonding experience, BonS...and I stand corrected on misidentifying her as your wife. :)

Wish I'd known you were passing through, it would have been good to meet you and share some thin mountain air.

Thank for sharing. A couple co-workers and I (2 Valks, 1 Harley) will be doing some CO riding July 18th & 19th. This road is being thrown into the mix of trying to figure out a two day route!

I gotta get a camera!!
