DETROIT (AP) - Harley-Davidson is recalling 66,421 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year because their front wheels can lock up without warning.

Motorcycles with anti-lock brakes built between July 1, 2013, and May 7, 2014, are included in the recall.

Harley-Davidson Inc. says the front brake line can get pinched between the fuel tank and the frame. That could cause front brake fluid pressure to increase, increasing the risk that the front wheel could lock up while riding.

The company knows of five crashes and two minor injuries related to the defect, which it discovered last fall through warranty claims.

Harley-Davidson will notify owners later this month. Dealers will replace the brake lines for free and attach straps to hold them in place.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

I applaud HD for the recall, before anymore accidents happen...unlike GM

They are recalling 18K more than the entire production run of Valkyries.  That shows how well Harleys sell.

I was thinking the same thing and it took them from the Fall until now to decide to recall them....... I don't care who the manufacturer is.

Gavin_Sons

But HD is the best money can buy. They are the superior motorcycle that every other manufacturer copies.

Jess Tolbirt

the front wheel does not lock up solid,, you squeeze the brake lever and the fluid will not return back to the master cyl. so it just stays squeezed to that point but if you panic stop and slide the front tire then yes it stays locked solid..was only discovered during warranty work..funny tho,, 10 months of production totals more harleys recalled than honda o nevermind LOL

I'd like to have a $1.00 for everytime I heard that as a CHP investigaing an accident.

Always wanted to suggest they attend an MSF class to learn how to apply brakes.

Never did as if it didn't work they could have sued me for false information, and our AG wasn't worth the pot to pee in, for supporting us.

He only liked to run circle 8 stuff.   They had his FULL STAFF Support.

Another good reason, I do not like anti-lock brakes.

Takes vehicle control out of the riders hands, into a computer, out to the road.

If you don't know how to brake, take a bus or cab.

Only the anti-lock brake bikes, have this problem, obviously not mine.

My brake lines run to the brakes, not to a module under the right side cover and battery.

Routing must be the problem. Imagine that an assembly line problem.

That never happens anywhere.

Goldwing,,,,,,,,frames cracked for years, Honda welded them.

Kawasaki, Kickstands on the KLR 650, bought the entire motorcycle back, unlike Hondas weld

stupidity.

Two Kawasakis, FZ1200R, Bad transmission, Kawasaki said Sorry warranty won't help you.
Vulcan 1500 classic, Tranny Synchronizer Toast, 24,000 miles, sold it.

Kawasaki, Concourse,,,Knocking Like a Hammer on an Anvil,, The motor, Kawasaki, Sorry can't help

you

with that.

On and On it goes. I ride a Harley.. They sell motorcycles and that is all.

No Jet Ski's, No ATV's, no Rocket ships for space. That is good, all I want is a Motorcycle.
GOD SAVE THE UNITED STATES from the democrats is my prayer.

I won't buy a motorcycle from a clothing company.

Honda paid to weld my 2002 GW frame.  And fixed the overheating problem which I never saw.  And a couple other recalls I also never saw any problems with.  At least THEY OWNED the problems immediately.  Before I ever saw them.  Engineering and execution errors can and do happen to even the best manufacturers of complex machinery.  The question is, do they own up to it and do the right thing.  Or deny and obfuscate.  In this case, HD apparently did the right thing - though belatedly and after they were called on it. Not sure they did with other errors, like the cam chain tensioner fail. My buddy got stuck with that one. My Wing has never had a problem that I've seen.

Though IMO Harley really didn't need to fix the front brake problem.  No Harley riders I've ever met use the front brake AT ALL.  Doesn't surprise me - if you swallow the hype and buy the underengineered overpriced "Legend", you'll swallow the HD community's hype that front brakes shouldn't be used because they claim THE FRONT BRAKE WILL FLIP THE BIKE OVER.  Idiots.

Uh huh  and remember not to fly a flag or two on your Hogley or the additional drag imposed on the drivetrain may cause you to lose a clutch! Theres a post around here somewhere on that.

Harley-Davidson.....
The only motorcycle made that has the unique ability to take gasoline and transform it into an obnoxious amount of noise without the side benefit of horsepower!

Hey Al,

It was nice to meet you on the Dragon on my way to InZane this year. You took a picture of HayHauler , Disco and me at the outlook.  :cooldude:

To anybody else, I am sure Al uses both brakes, rides his motorcycle (happens to be well maintained and nice Harley) like its supposed to be ridden. His riding skills rank way up their, better than 95% or more of all motorcycle riders.  :cooldude:
