I was riding the Valkyrie to Texas Road House tonight and came up to a traffic light that had just turned red. I went through the downshifting and the MarkT pipes with full trombones in was announcing my arrival as the engine rpms brought the bike to a stop.
A guy in a pickup truck in the lane next to me was eying the bike approvingly. I glance over at him a couple times and nodded to him. He finally yelled out his open window, "Nice Indian"!
It kinda caught me off guard but at least he knew it wasn't a Hawly.

I told him what it was and he gave a thumbs up as the light turned green and I pulled away.

On of my favorites was the lassy on the pillion of a HD that wanted to know what model beemer I was riding. At least she knew it wasn't a V-twin unlike her riding partner that told her the Big Girl was a Guzzi, anyone could see that. Sure glad I still have the badges on the tank so there is no confusion when I park amongst other makes.

I've had several people ask if my tourer is a Harley. My reply is usually, "no, it's a Honda Valkyrie, Harley couldn't make a bike like this!

One of the reasons I removed the badges was so people who had no clue and wished to know would have to inquire.   I was once approached by a man that thought I had hung a Porche engine in a H-D frame.   That's not too outrageous.  I had a friend back in the '70's that put a Porche engine into a extended BMW frame.

Old guy awhile back said to me-nice 3 cylinder engine AND I said if you'll look at the other side you WILL find 3 more!!  And at times it' truly astounding that "people" think it's an H/D.  RIDE SAFE.

If I could understand any misguesses about what brand of bike it is, I would think Boss Hoss would be close because of the big ole motor sticking out.

At least those who geusss BMW have the right Boxer style motor in mind-but Indian or Harley? Not even close.

I removed the tank badges on my standard and it adds a mystery as to what my bike is. Had lots of questions but the most recurring is "Is that a car engine?" At that point I ask if they have a nickel and you know the rest of the story.....

I'm only 6 miles from work but also hate it when I'm forced to take the car because of hauling something, winter...etc. Taking my bike in the morning sets my mood for the day, as does looking forward to getting off and jumping on the Valk for the ride home, even if it's short.

I too have no badging on my 1997 standard.  Over the 4th I want to Bend, OR for a all bike rally and as you can guess I had the only non harley bike there, but in the parking lot mine got a lot of questions by passer by asking what kind of bike is that and what is funny is my harley riding friends will tell them what it is and all that.
I have good friends that kid me about my Honda but also tell me with all joking aside how good of a bike it is and have even stuck up for me if someone starts giving me real crap about it.
Real bike riders don't care what you ride as long as you are riding ..
The more I ride the Valk the more I love it.
It has been called a Rockit III, a Harley, and my fav is " What the hell kind of bike is that. "

NOT meeting myself everywhere I go is a +. Having something that looks different is a +. Having something that sounds different is a +. Being able to do the nickel trick is a +. Observing peoples faces when I tell them she is 15 years young AND the current mileage is a +. And the frikin grin dat DO NOT go away is quite possibly the biggest + of owning this rather unique motorcycle.  And thankfully "riders" get it!
