Does anyone have a recommendation for a good off road location in the Houston area (preferably south Houston area)?  I've found a place that is in Alvin, but don't know anything about it other than what I've found on a limited web search.

No, I'm not getting into dirt bikes, but she is:

Check out TRH (Trail Riders of Houston) and their private motorcycle park in Columbus (Skull Creek).  Before we started riding street, we were members for about 8 years and 4 of our 6 kids rode and raced as a family along with me.  They do lots of family events and the private property is a good place to learn.  Unless she is already experienced, I would not recommend putting her on any of the tracks around town.

Sam Houston National Forest is another economical option, but its north.  You can buy an annual permit for less than $100 I think and they have about 100 miles of trails.  Get yourself a bike and go along.

I live nine miles away and never knew this place exhisted. How do you keep from being runned-over by a gravel truck or a bucket loader?

Mark we started out riding in the national forest many years ago. 86 miles of maintained trails. Kids still talk about the good times we had. Sam Houston forest off of hwy 1375 at new waverly exit 102 of 45.

Thanks for the tips, everyone.  Sam Houston sounds like a good option, but it's pretty far north for us.  I think when she gets good enough to make it worthwhile, we'll go and spend the day there every once in a while.  Right now I'll take her somewhere a little closer.

As for getting my own and following along:  I suppose it would be a little too much to take the Valkyrie on those trails.  (:
Yeah, I should ride along with her, even if it's just to keep an eye on her ("Honest, honey, it's not fun for me.  I do it just for her safety!").

Like I said in my email...  looking for a dual sport in the coming months.....   I want to see what all the fuss about this dirt is all about...  :)
