I've had my Valk long enough to get well acquainted with it.  Sometimes I take her looks for granted.  About when I'm starting to forget, people always remind me I'm riding a unique and beautiful beast.  "What the hell is that ?!?!"' is a commonly asked question that usually leads to brief conversation.  I try to point out that she handles better than she looks.

Apparently I bought the right bike.
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

I park it but don't look back.

However, I hope that it's permissible to pat the gas tank once in awhile while ignoring the fugly looks, the dirty rear wheel, and the lack of chrome . It's not the wrong bike for me and it still keeps me in the wind. ;D

I still miss the Valk, tho.

Willow

My wife razzes me a bit.   She claims I can't walk by the Valk without giving her a look and a pat.   :)

Due to pre skin cancer issues, I havent been able to ride for a couple of months.
No big deal on the S/C, no sympathy or cards and letters needed.
I've washed her twice, waxed her a bunch.
Walked by her and even sat on her and made "Vroom" noises.
I look back and run into stuff.
Aot of guys with burn marks, gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear

Because of my surgery last month, I currently can't ride either.

However, I do go down to the garage and stare at it.   ;)

Beautiful bike and smoke on the water to go with it.

I always look back at mine, but I never pat her...don't want to leave finger prints.

I know it's a weakness and indicates a possibly unacceptable level of sloppiness but I've never worried about leaving fingerprints on my girls.   :)

I just came back from a local hang out ( was in the cage ) and the parking lot was full of motorcycles.... I didn't see a single one that made me look back.

:cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude: I went to a local eatery tonight and there were several OTHER bikes all lined up near the front door. We went in and i sat down near the window to watch the reactions from others and the people going in and out.  Not a single look at the others and all past mine with real wide eyes and stopping to gander at my Phat Lady.  We got ready to leave and a rather older lady came over with her elderly husband just wide eyed and inquiring as to the usual questions.  He told me that the two of them had a Matchless years ago and she added--" it would be a real thrill to ride a bike again and your trike looks so comfortable".  Now how am I going to say no to a woman--I found out she was 98--I put on her helment and and took her around the parking lot and down the highway about a mile and returned.  She was in seventh heaven and her husband said that she still looks at bikes with a longing of all their years riding together.  He had been a motor cop in Michigan and he had just turned 99 last week...This made me very happy to please the both of them.

I think I done a big favor to a wonderful couple that had not been on a bike since the eary 50's.  I was [pleased and happy to do it as they were passing thru Kentucky to Sudbury, Canada.

I own both a valkyrie and a vstrom DL650. Sometimes I *do* look back for the vstrom.

But I *always* look back for the valkyrie:

Savage, you're right, the Strom's are adventure touring bikes and naturally fugly but they both do the job.  I'll look back after I clean mine up a bit.  ;D

I always check the local ad's for a KLR650 .... Someday I might find one that's priced to sell.

Agreed...How many walk out to the garage and say goodnight to her? (I've been busted)
especially after adding something new.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

Joe, I've been caught working on mine early in the morning in my underwear and crocks

Guilty as charged, i often open the garage door and belt out " Goodnight sweetheart, I Love you." close the door and my wife stares at me and i say "What"

I don't know about underwear and crocs, but I enjoy your stories.

Just put some Sena BT intercom headsets on our helmets today and hopefully replacing the leatherlyke bags with some Saddlemen's Jumbo slants ( http://www.saddlemen.com/express-cruisn-slant-face-pouch-saddlebags-jumbo-universal )with pockets on the Valk.

And I'm so bike crazy that I admire EVERYONE's bike when i see them. Have thought about the idea of a smaller commuter bike for work, but....

John Schmidt

We use the garage as our back door. So when my wife and I are coming in from an evening out(dinner and such), as we walk by I give it a pat and ask "did ya miss me baby?"  My wife just rolls her eyes and keeps walking. She told me long ago that if she would stick a muffler up her butt and make a sound like a motorcycle, she'd get a lot more attention. I never argue with my wife!  ;D
