short ride today

I had some time today and thought it would be a nice day to smell some exhaust fumes. I had no time to be back (wife out of town), so I thought a quick jaunt to La Crosse via Prairie Du Chen (part of the river road) might be in order. The plan was to be back in the SE corner of WI before the dark had settled in too deep and the forest rats decided to all go stand in the roads. On a nice day like today, the US designated highways are all taboo. So the normal 4-5 hr travel time was probably going to be more like 5-6 hours. I was leaving about 11 in the morning (if that is still really morning) and I didn't plan to get off I-90 and I-94 on the way back (use cagers for forest rat interception). Well, Murphy was along for the ride. I have been tweeking the lighting and a few other minor things since I got back from the Black Hills over the Independence Day weekend. About 130 miles into the trip, the Big Girl seemed to be not quite right. Nothing I could put my finger on, just .....hesitant. Gas was in order at that point so while I was hydrating, I looked over the areas that I had worked around to see if anything was obvious, not that there was an obvious problem. Another 10 miles (or so) down the road and it was becoming apparent that it wasn't my imagination. Oh well, sometimes discretion is better than valor. I put my pride away, tucked tail and headed for the barn. By the time I rolled in, the Girl was definitely not quite right. Here we go again, she has been apart so much lately, now what is the problem? To shorten the novel I seem to be composing, a vacuum cap (de-smoged) was not seated properly and #3 air-cut hose (the one that causes new swear words to be created) did not seem to be fully on. I have to pick up the wife at O'Hare tomorrow night at 8:30, I wonder if her carry on will strap to the luggage rack?
