Cemetery at Old Washington State Park

My sister came down for a visit and stopped at Old Washington State Park. Old Washington is an interesting place. It was actually the Capitol of the the Confederacy for a VERY short time after Virginia fell. It's is also where Jim Bowie had his famous knife made.
There is a cemetery there with some of the dated stones going back to the 1700s. It inspired her to write the poem I'll share berlow.

How fertile now this sacred soil
where we so lightly tread
where years ago the living
sadly laid their precious dead.
The bloom of youth, a new life started,
a spouse so dearly loved,
soon turned to dust but souls remain
now living up above.
Unknown by you but seen by God,
remains are planted deep
beneath this luscious, verdant sod
for whom loved ones did weep.
So softly walk, you living guest
and remember when you step
the lives of those who welcome you
to stand upon their breast.

I like wandering thru old cemeteries. Many around here are old family sites. There is one behind my house that the township saved for criminals in the 18th and early 19th century. The first in it was a husband that was publicly hanged for murdering his wife because of adultery.[ I'm assuming she was the adulterer.].  I think the date was 1793.
