What's up with this? Rattlesnakes, black widows, and scorpions weren't enough?

If I get bitten by the Lone Star tick,  I'm as good as dead!
While my wife is a Vegan, I'm definitely a carnivore. I hardly eat many vegetables and don't see that changing.

Why couldn't you all Southerners have invented a tick that makes you allergic to broccoli?

I have to have my beef fix at least 3 times a week. Praying for an antidote...   :D

yah gotta die sooner or later.

even around me they have discovered pretty locally the mosquito carrying the west niles virus.

things all around us that will kill us, so I don't worry about it much at all.

Hey Wiggy, I like my beef also but three times a week?!? Might want to back off a bit, all that red meat has a tendency to catch up with you. As for the Lone Star tick, I've never heard of one of those. The regular ones we had in the midwest were bad enough, and my dad used to touch them with a burning match to remove them. After burning my hide a few times I suggested he blow it out and then touch the tick.  ;D

You think beef three times a day is excessive?  Ouch.  We have beef at least one meal a day, essentially every day.  Raise and finish our own calves here on the farm.

We even gots them there ticks up here in the North East too.  Not the same ones, but, they make ya sick. Lyme disease. They seem to be spreading/increasing faster than the deer herd. I've had couple on me.
There are a few swamps around here that have had a West Nile problem for around 25 years. And, of course, we have our share of tree huggers that protest the spraying.
About the only things I hate worse than crows and coyotes are skeeters and no-see-ums. I see no useful purpose for those critters.

We've had ticks throughout the Midwest for as long as I can remember...but never did the bite make you allergic to red meat like this new variation. I thought it was a joke when I first read about it-but sadly, it's true.

I'm with MP on this one, nothing wrong with red meat of any kind 3-4 times per week pretty much normal here if not almost daily in the dairyland state.  Between brats, chicken, pork chops, and hamburgers I'm pretty much set for the grill.  Sorry, with steak prices in stores at well over 10 bucks per lb. I gotta cut back somehow on the finer things in life vs. MP able to go out and get his own fresh on the farm.   :cooldude:

It's all about moderation something I try to do more and more.  Yah, I can eat 3 brats or 3 hamburgers per meal, but choose to eat only 2 but probably should only eat one at a time for one meal.  ;D

Mike, I'm with you on this one. Although John is right, my idea of moderation is eating 12 ounce prime ribs instead of 16 like I use to. I just loaded my freezer with a quarter beef from a local farmer, the only way to go.

Hey guys, I was born and raised in the Great Land of the Sod Savages: Iowa!  I know all about getting it fresh whether it's meat, produce, or cackleberries(eggs). Strange isn't it....we used to drink the milk fresh out of the OEM container, just put it in the well house to cook for a time. Never got sick from it. Try to sell that now and they throw the book at you.

Yup, they do. This state requires medicated food in the dairy herd whether the cows need it or [more usually] not. Tastes like crap.
So, some dairies [ English, Amish and Mennonite] sold it raw. Well, all heck broke loose over that and people were arrested. After-all, only the New York government knows whats best for you.
So, I started drinking organic milk because it tastes like milk should.

John, I'll try most anything once, but what if the cow falls on me?

In the late 60's, I was working summers in the woods.  We were required to get shots for Rocky Mountain Tick Fever.   Three shot, a week apart.  The fever was carried by the lone star tick seen above.   These shots went on yearly till the mid 70's when some bright doc figures out that they did not good.   There was one year, I had to start over three times cause couldn't get to the doc's for the third shot in time.

I also figure that  I will continue to eat red meat till I die, hopefully in 20 or so years.   Have eaten red meat 5-7 time a week, sometime twice a day.  Don't eat as much as I used to, 10-12 oz. meal instead of the 16-18 oz. I used to.   Metabolism has slowed down as I have gotten older and don't need as much as I use to eat to maintain my girlish figure.
