Looking for a Modular helmet, any recomendations ?

Wondering what some of you are wearing in the Modular style helmets ? I wear prescription glasses so I think I want a modular instead of full face. I've been trying to research the different brands but it's hard to decide. The best deal appears to be a Fulmer M2B that is Dot and ECE rated, sells for about $179.00 retail. I know Shoei is good but pricey, also Noland is another consideration. I'm not going with HJC this time as I have in the past with half helmets. I appreciate your comments. Thanks.

I wanted to go even cheaper buying the Bilt demon helmet was on sale for only 50 bucks at the time being also a modular helmet, but fitment on my head was horrible even an XXL didn't fit right.

The bilt apollo for 100 bucks is well made for the price even has a built in sunshade that flips down if needed on bright days.  It also has a 5 year replacement warranty that if anything goes wrong or breaks in 5 years that they will replace that part for free such as clips or chin-shield or any other moving parts.  

Not saying it is on par with 200 dollar plus helmets, but is roomy and comfy for my needs anyways I don't like tight fitting helmets and this is not in XL size.  It tends to run bigger than some helmets in XL size, but get whatever size you take now should be fine.  Only issue I can see with my helmet is if you have a bigger chin sticking out,  the bottom of the helmet by the chin nearly touches my chin while riding and you can remove by snapping out the chin strap as well though.

Read the reviews on the www.biltracing.com  website most are good and honest what I would recommend as well for reviews.  Is a bit noisey on the hwy ONLY if do not have a windshield on bike and not the best few tiny air vents for circulation, but not too many helmets out there I don't think that the air vents do much anyways.  For 100 bucks is worth a shot as long as you can return it within say 30 days if don't like.  There are bilt stores nationwide now even one locally here in Madison WI on east side of town.  Like said, for the money, hard to beat on pricing and fits not snug and well roomy enough for sunglasses or regular glasses which I use 100% of the time.  Only issue I see is the chin area is pretty close to touching in front is all but unless you have a Jay Leno chin, should work?

Since you don t want HJC, I can't give any recommendations as that happens to be the modular brand I own.

I have a Shoei Neotec. Comfortable,good ventilation, the built in sunvisor is nice. Yeah, it's pricey, but if you have a $10 head, then you only need a $10 helmet.

Ive had Nolans, first the N100 which was good, the second Nolan, N 200 doesn't have enough chin room for me. Both were the same size. I bought a Vega Summit II plenty of room and cheaper. Works great for me. All are modulars.

I really like my Shark Evoline III that I wear in the rain and colder riding conditions. A little in the pricey side but considering that it converts from a full face to a 3/4 helmet very easily...I think it is worth it.

Plenty of opinions will be offered. Do yourself a favor and go try some on. Figure out what options you want/like verse price and then check out where it can be purchased cheapest. Good luck

agree as well must try on to see whether fits for your own head.  For me,  I go the cheapest route that fits fairly comfortably.  I really don't think you get that much more protection out of a 240 dollar helmet vs. a 100 dollar helmet both are DOT approved but the higher priced ones are SNELL approved for what it is worth who really knows if much difference in protection?

I know I started this topic on just modular style helmets but I actually tried on a full face Shoei RF 1100 today that felt really good. The RF1100 is actually last years model and the current model is the Shoei RF 1200 which they did not have. I was concerned about my glasses fitting with the full face but they seemed to work by putting the helmet on first then the glasses. I wish I could find a shop that had a nice selection to try on but where I live it's slim choices. I think if I ride to the KC area there might be some helmet choices at Dell's Honda. If Willow or anyone else in the KC area knows of another dealership that may carry a good selection of helmets I'm all ears. Thanks.

Some helmets are for rounder shaped heads and some are for more oblong. Figure out what shape yours is....don't ask your wife or best friend as they will both say "block".
Anyway, since I have a more oblong noggin I also went with the Nolan N-104. Spent a couple years in it so far and zero complaints. Fairly quiet, vents well, and a good fit still. The interior is removable and washable as well.

 I just got a Shuberth C3 from Revzilla. Pricey helmet at 550 bucks but it is real nice. Quite and light. Built in Sun Visor. Plus if you buy from Revzilla and it does not fit. They will pay to send it back.

The shape of your hard has everything to do with which brand to get. Some helmets fit round heads, others fit oval's.  You're going to have to go out, and try on several helmets. Which includes wearing them around the store for more than just a minute. Look for hotspots..... especially on the forehead.

I tried a number of modular helmets.  I found many that fit well until you pulled the chin bar down at which point they pinch in on my jaw.  I finally tried on a Scorpion EXO900.  I wore it around the store for an hour before deciding yes.  It's also nice that the chin bar can be removed and converted to a 3/4 style helmet with a sun visor.

We're all different and you really need to try several models to find the correct fit.

IM ALSO (LIKE RAINMAKER) A FAN OF THE NOLAN 104.  FITS WELL.  WIDE OPEN FOR VISION.  GREAT CHIN STRAP.  CANT MISS ON THIS HELMET.  MANY GREAT FEATURES.

THE ONLY OTHER ONE THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION IS THE SHUBERTH BRAND.. BUT OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE AT THIS TIME.

There is a fair but not huge selection at Shawnee Cycle Plaza.  It sounds like Cyclegear is the best bet.
