In a short time I'm gonna need to replace my rear tire.

Right now I have a Metzler 200/60 something.

This tire is waaay too rough for me, even with 30# air.

I want to keep a 200. I do not want a car tire.

I'm looking for a smoother riding tire.

Any suggestions?

Years ago I ran an Avon 200-60-10 known as the Fat Freddie.  It is a bias ply tire but I felt no ill handling effects while I had it. Only problem was, after 6k miles it was shot.

Don't have any experience with them, but I think Bridgestone makes a Battlax in a 200 series that'll fit.
I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

I was fortunate enough to be able to have it shipped directly to BigBF who changed out mine at 11500 or so miles when I was
passing thru Phoenix April 1st.  Was almost at the wear bars
but better safe than sorry with 3000 miles still to go to get home
Have had a plug in the new one since last day of
Inzane.  About 5000 miles on that tire now, may change it out before Inzane
maybe at Inzane we will see

Thanks for the info guys.

I bought a new Suzuki in '05 and when I changed tires from Dunlop to Metzler it developed a low speed hop (30ish mph). This was due to an out of round rim.
It was the same rim on both tires so, IMO, the Met must be a stiffer tire.

For those of you using the 200/60 Bridgestone Exedra Max Radial on the rear, what are you using on the front?

Avon  Cobra

I am on my 2nd one

and I like it, a lot.   The Metzler was maybe a bit better in the rain but my
experience is they cup earlier than the Avon tires  and they suck on oily roads

Run 40 during summer riding solo  42 if 2 up

during winter I run 38.

I use ride-on in both tires, have found I get more miles from the tire with it than
without it   at less than $10. for a dinged bottle its cheap enough

This is just my experience, yours may differ and that is fine

I've had an Avon Cobra 200/60R-16 on mine for a year now and love it. I'm 245lbs and run 42lbs in it and I plan on using this tire as long as they keep making em. Just did a 1,000 mile round trip in 3 days to Pikes Peak a couple weeks ago. First "real" long trip with the new Avons and they were awesome! Very smooth and stable at all speeds (up to 105mph for almost 50 miles at one point!  ) and handled magnificently in all road conditions, including a little snow slush in the switch backs at the top of PP  :uglystupid2: and heavy rain at highway speed down on the superslab!
Just be sure to ask about the date code on the tire before purchasing one. Dennis Kirk went above and beyond for me. When I asked about the date code, they went to the warehouse and checked them and called me back with the info. All were less than a year old! Highly recommend them! They've got 4 on hand right now. $201.88  $196.88 now

Just my opinion! Your milage may vary!

Bob E.

The best mileage I ever got from a rear motorcycle tire was with the Dunlop E3 (11,000 miles) in stock size.  A very close 2nd was with the Avon Cobra at 10,000 miles also in stock size.  I've never run the 200 size tire so I can't say if it is better or worse.  The last 2 rear tires, I've been running a General Altimax car tire because I had a couple summers of close to 8000 miles and basically wearing out a set of MC tires every season was getting expensive.  Plus the last Avon rear tire only lasted 7500 miles for some reason.  I don't get much more mileage out of this car tire...about 14,000 miles.  But they are half the cost.  The past 2 summers, I've barely ridden half that due to family circumstances.  So I've been thinking about going back to a MC tire when this one wears out...most likely the Avon Cobra but possibly the E3 if I got a good price on it.  I like the price of the car tire.  But I really like the feel and handling of the MC tire better.  So at least until I start riding a lot more like I was a few years ago, I'll probably go back to a MC tire.

I put a excedra on the rear, not the 200 but match to OEM. 41-2# of air. Still have the metz on the front, it will likely go Bridgestone at the next change. The tire feels a little harder than the Metz, but not enough to justify the double price of the metz.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.
