New England riders

Just got back to coastal North Carolina from my annual ride to Maine.  What is is with the riders up north?  It seems that riders in just about all other regions of the country wave, but almost NO riders wave in New England.

My theory is that they get to ride so seldomly that they just aren't comfortable taking their hands off the bars!    

Any other thoughts?

When its really cold out EVERYONE waves back maybe
thinking " wow I am not the only crazy one out here in 35 degrees"

I found harley riders and sports bike riders least likely to wave
Beemer riders most likely to wave especially if the weather is bad

Interesting.  I guess it may have been a Harley snob thing.  Didn't seem to be any difference between the road types except for the White Mountain Natl Forest.  Everyone waved there.

I'd say about 75 % of the riders I come across wave.  Less for crouch rockets.

I wave almost always. I find that crotch rocket riders won't return a wave and only a small % of Harley riders will wave... until they realize "Oh, that's not another Harley... crap,,, I waved."

Harley riders seem to wave the most at me out here. Sport bikers, almost never!

        In Ga. I would give it a 96% participation . I give the wave to anything on 2-3 wheels. It is comical with some of the harley boys especially at a slow roll when they see it is not a harley and pull it back like they stuck it in a meat grinder.

I gave this thread some thought while out on a beautiful fall like day here in western/central Mass.  Went to the Franklin County Fair for my quota of ox/cow dung smells and some time observing REAL Americans.  Funny thing, the place was full and mine was the only bike there.

At least 90-95 % of the riders I waved to returned one, and many beat me to it.

Got me to thinking that Raider may have been exposed to city riders more than county riders.  That would explain the snobbish non-wavers.

I'm also thinking, if I had to ride in metro Boston, NY, Hartford,  I wouldn't take my hands off the bars to wave either.  That's some busy crappy road riding.

Were you lucky enough to get inland in CT, MA, NH, VT?  If you had to stay costal, you missed the best we got to offer.

As I write this I'm looking at the base of the White Mts of NH.  Beautiful fall like day, sunny and in the 70's.  My buddy and I just did a loop around Lake Winnipeaukee today.  Not a lot of bikes out, but most waved.
