Just got word they lost their only child this afternoon. She was 18 and absolutely beautiful, just graduated from HS and had her whole life ahead of her. It all came to a horrific end last Sunday. She was involved in a terrible car crash that left her barely clinging to life. This afternoon she let go.

I can't imagine me having the strength to go through what her parents are going through right now. May God be with them at this time of need.

I know you're not supposed to ask God why but sometimes I just can't help it.  :'(

It's okay to ask.  The Psalms are full of those questions.  It's just not acceptable to demand.

That's a tough situation.  I don't know that I would handle it well at all.  May they find some peace and comfort despite the absolute lack of an reason to understand.   :'(

It's been said before but still rings true, no parent should have to bury their child.

My condolences to the family and friends of this child of God.

That's a terrible thing to have to go through.  I've been close to the same situations with friends a couple of times.  We also asked God and the answer was always... "We needed another angel up here".   Our condolences to the family and friends in this very tough time.

Way too much of that this year...

My mom's twin sister was only able to bear one child, and he was born later in her life. Very smart kid, did well, just graduated last fall from vet school with his PhD, and started work early this year as a veterinarian, his dream job.

Took one of his first "real" paychecks and bought a quadrunner. Bad accident with it that night and he's no longer with us.

We're trying hard to make sure my aunt doesn't join him. Not a good situation.

Much love and positive thoughts to your friends. I can't imagine their pain, but just thinking about it just about knocks the wind out of me.

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

I feel for your friends.

I saw what something like that did to my parents when I was 13 years old when my older sister was found murdered.

I don't think my dad ever recovered from it.  The day of the funeral, my dad had to be taken to the hospital from being overcome with grief.

I don't think my dad ever overcame my sister's murder.  He died only three years later.

But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

No, a parent shouldn't have to bury their child....or children in my case. You don't really get over it, just becomes a distant painful memory. One cannot get through it on their own power. God's grace and strength to the family.

It's tough I think near everyone has had at least 1-2 instances either car wreck or other accident or suicide death.

Just last year a 6th grader named Austin,  one year younger than my Austin who was in 7th grade,  hung himself in the bedroom and his younger siblings found him after school.  How horrific is that? :'(

Rumors spread he couldn't please his parents (his dad mainly) and was yelled at home constantly but who really knows the real truth.  I guess he wrote a letter to his parents but that information was kept private as it should be.  I asked both my kids just a tad older than he was and both said he was a very nice kid and was nice to talk to at school and smart as well.  Just don't know what kids even age 11-12 are thinking.  Going to the visitation was TOUGH to see a vibrant young smart 12 year old gone.

Even my  15 year old daughter had thoughts of committing suicide VERY depressed last year as a freshman  didn't want to live anymore.  She even took a bottle of pills to school and luckily the nurse found them and called me ASAP.  A few counsel sessions with a psychiatrist followed still on meds.

I'll stop for now since I'm starting to get a lump in my throat just thinking of last year.  :'(
It makes you think you failed as a parent.  :'(

I Have four daughters. They range in age  from 16-39. I see them as babies when I close my eyes. No parent should ever have to bury a child. I wept openly when I read the post. I will pray for your broken heart and hug all my girls ......
It's got to be the goin not the gettin there that's good!

.

My condolences to your friends, Fritz. I cannot imagine what horrible, hopeless grief and despair they are going through and I hope I never have to. I wish none of us ever had to.

Although I've not experienced it, losing your kid(s) has to be the toughest thing to go through, only Faith can help help.

The lady next door lost her two young daughters just two miles from their home due to not seeing or hearing a train at a crossing.  The one daughter had just gotten her drivers license.

I have a lady friend that found her son after he had shot himself in the head with a .357 magnum.

So sad. Toatally prayers for peace and strength.
We lost our son March 19th. Tammy has not been the same. I told her its going to be a long road.

After almost losing our first son when he was born I know the thoughts that go through your head. I wold have traded places with him in a heartbeat. He pulled through and is now a healthy 4 year old. My thinking was I have lived a good life and it would be easier on my wife and my parents if it was me because he looks just like me and they would always have a part of me through him.

I sit here with tears in my eyes for your friends grief. I came with in a breath 10 yrs ago of loosing my son who is now 33. I literally felt life draining out of me as I looked at him with all the lines and hoses running  into him. I still think Jesus for sparring him. My heart and prayers go out to your friends and their family.

The tragic stories contained in this thread are heart-rending.

God has all this in his perfect plan, and we can only hope to understand fully one day.

Thoughts and prayers for your friends. I agree no parent should have to go through this. I lost a cousin to the war in Nam in 68. He had just turned 19 and my aunt and uncle never really got over it.

We lost a niece 17 years ago, on my wife's birthday.  She and my son Mike share the same birthday.

My sister-in-law has never been the same.  Her only daughter.

Sorry for your friends loss.

Well he's an update. She was an organ donor. They've already transplanted her kidneys and liver into 2 needy people. They flew her body to Atlanta to do a skin transplant, it's on the way back now and will be turned over to the funeral home. Don't know yet where her heart went but was told it was healthy and on it's way to a new home. The organ donor people are keeping her mom informed and she's getting a degree of comfort out of knowing some good is coming out of all this.

They are still investigating the cause but there are two possible scenarios.

1. According to the girl who was in the truck with her and survived (barely), another teenager passed them and stayed beside them until a dump truck forced her to pull back in behind. In so doing she clipped her back and sent her out of control and into the path of a van being driven by a mother with her grown daughter (mother of 3) daughter. Both of them were pronounced dead at the scene.

2. According to the girl who appears to have caused it all, she went to pass them and they sped up causing to have to pull back in behind to avoid the on coming dump truck.

Either way it was a head on at highway speed that killed 3 people and seriously injured a 4th. Sounds to me like it was the other teens fault but that's for the police to decide. :(

With the following video in mind, I somehow think it will be a moot point wanting to understand why two of my daughters were taken from us. I'll be too busy enjoying a family reunion.

My 27 year old cousin that had the ATV accident this spring, since he was a very healthy 27 year old other than the traumatic head injury that ended his life, he was also an organ donor. It is a small consolation that he saved multiple other lives (I believe the count got up to 7 lives saved by the time it was over). It doesn't even BEGIN to erase the pain, or even lessen it, but it's nice to know his heart is still beating somewhere.

Once again, my deepest condolences to the friends and family.
