good luck or bad

Our family has had a lot of good luck lately I think. Some would consider it bad luck but I look at it as very good luck indeed.

Some may remember my son Andy was involved in one of those few and far between "fender benders" which seldom happen between 4 wheeled vehicles and motorcycles.

He was bruised and sore for a while but had no bad injuries.

Then this past labor day my daughter Alicia was injured badly in an accident at work. No one saw it happen and due to the head injury she has no memory of it so far. She was found on the floor in a puddle of blood at the machine she runs laying under a fallen ladder. Her scalp was split and required 8 or 10 staples to close. Her left clavicle was broken in two places and her top 6 ribs are broke on the left side. One lung collapsed also. 

Climbing a ladder hooked to the machine and then climbing on up onto the machine is a normal part of her job. We don't know if she fell from the machine and grabbed the ladder on her way down or if she fell from the ladder. She is covered with big ugly bruises on both sides and spent 8 days in the hospital. Then was back for a while yesterday but is home now. She is healing and is going to be whole again but can still hardly move right now. She probably weighted 125 when the accident happened but I doubt she is over 110 lbs now. My guess from all the bruises is that she hit some parts of the machine on the way down which probably slowed her down enough to save her life.

I have to say, I think we are very lucky. But for the grace of God we could have lost 2 of our 4 living children in a little over 30 days.

As far as Valks go. One evening when I was about to leave the hospital a kid about 18 came up to ask me about the Valk. He was a new father which is why he was there. He wanted to know everything about the valk in-spite of not being a rider. He took some pictures of it and recorded the sound of my Mark "T" pipes. He thought it as a new bike but she's a 97 with nearly 105,000 on the clock. You gotta love Valks!!!!

Sorry to read of this Mike. 

I suppose there is an upside in survival, but better to have no (serious) accidents at all.

When your daughter heals, tell her to inform management she needs a class on ladder safety. It should always be a 2 person job. 27 years at Motorola in facilities with more safety training then I can remember.

Great attitude, much better to see how things could be much worse, and how blessed you are that they weren't.  Lots healthier to think like this than to be "Oh woe is me, what am I gonna do, life is so unfair."  Things happen in this life, and sometime  they are bad, its how you handle it that counts most.
