"Most lethal sniper"?  Has to be about Chris Kyle.  He has the highest confirmed count. Or "had".  He's gone now after a PTSD veteran he was training shot him at a range Feb last year. Read his book.

Simo Häyhä had 505 confirmed sniper kills in under 100 days. 

When asked if he regretted killing so many, he stated, "I only did my duty, and what I was told, the best that I could."  He used iron sights on a Mosin-Nagant, the Russians nicknamed him "White Death," and also put a bounty on his head.  He was eventually shot through the face but lived into his 90's.

When asked if he regretted killing so many, he stated, "I only did my duty, and what I was told, the best that I could."  He used iron sights on a Mosin-Nagant, the Russians nicknamed him "White Death," and also put a bounty on his head.  He was eventually shot through the face but lived into his 90's.

That is amazing. I have a Mosin-Nagant, I look at it sometimes but I've only shot it once, the day I bought it. It has all the "good rifle feel" you'd get from mounting a barrel on a set of post-hole diggers. Easily the worst feeling weapon I've ever handled. Sniping 500 with one is amazing indeed.

Chris Kyle wrote two books. American Sniper which is a great book and American Gun which is another great book. He was working on American Gun when he was killed and his wife and friends got it ready for publishing I think. American Gun is the history of the United States as it relates to what Chris felt were US history's 10 most important firearms. It's a book of history and facts and it's a very good book. Chris Kyle wasn't just a sniper/hero, he was a very smart, well read guy with a real gift for communication through writing. If your up to it, get on Youtube and find the speech his widow gave at the Texas NRA convention. Absolutely heartbreaking.

I also have a Mosin Nagant Soviet M91/30 post hole digger.  

Butt ugly (thou a full factory refinish), weird bolt, but it shoots pretty well (or it did about 20 years ago last time it was out).

My Mosin shoots about 15" high at 120yards but is remarkably consistent. Well, it used to, until I sold it to John............

I was thinking of re-barreling mine to 44 mag. and installing a good feeling stock on it for deer hunting but decided to build that 450 bushmaster instead. Really no way to tell what kind of feeding issues I might have ran into on that conversion until I actually did it. Might have turned into wasted money. Would have had to machine a new bolt head at the least.

Mike,  Thx for the lead on Kyle's 2nd book.  Picked up the ebook last night and read the first chapter on Kentucky long rifles.  Good read so far.  It's also available as an audio book.

Some of the kindest, gentlest smartest gentlemen I have ever known were in the teams.
The grandstanders and mavericks get weeded out real quick. Some guys you'd think dont have a prayer, make it all the way. Some guys who you'd think are a shoe in, dont make it past week two.
Guys like Chris are rare and wonderful people. His spirit of giving and desire to help was in every fiber of his being. You just never know when things will get the best of you.
