Making cagers soil their drawers... Stebel....

Had to go to the Vegas Strip tonight for my Wife's Mary Kay event.  I normally try to avoid the strip on weekends.. nightmare...  Anyway, heading home and this cage tries to take me out, crossing lanes right into me, so I lay on the ol' Stebel Nautilus at 139db and you can SEE them leap up in their seat and jerk back into their own lane.

All my rides get a Stebel.  Next, the Valkyrie, which wins the award for the wimpiest horn ever... heck, I think a good rap on the 6x6 Cobras is louder than the stock Valk horn.  That thing has got to go (Stebel ordered).

Anyway, I believe.. besides, it is fun to watch them soil their drawers... bwa-hahahahahaha....

done the same thing a couple of years ago.
it was mothers day and I decided to take her riding.
we were rolling down the road and had a pickup pull out in front of me. not close enough that I had to slam the brakes on but close enough that I had to move to the shoulder of the road to avoid rear ending him.
well I got up to the passenger door and laid on the stebil horn.
I looked over and all I seen was newspaper flying, coffee splattering the inside of the windshield and the passenger almost ending up in the drivers lap.
I got around him and they stayed way back.

Friend of mine is in the hospital in West Plains Mo. Was running some errands and took the Phatt Ghurl. Heading over to the hospital on a 2 lane street lined with little strip malls and office buildings. I've got my high beams on and my road lights on and it's a clear sun shiny day. 3/4 ton white ford pickup coming out of an office building on my left and trying to terminate me. My WOLO air horn is mounted just ahead of the fuel selector switch. I'm on the horn and the brakes and bearing to my right at the same time. They stopped half way into my lane and the driver-big dufus lookin sumbitch and his female passenger-female version of the driver-had both palms against the windshield with this surprised/dumb founded/W T F look on their mug shots. Had they NOT stopped it would have read-old2soon in hospital after M/C wreck. Thank GOD I avoided that encounter and kudos to the air horn. When the WOLO dies it will be a Stebel next. One of the first changes I performed was removal of the stock "horn"-being polite here-with something better. The air horn has alerted more than one errant "driver"-again being polite-to my presence. RIDE SAFE.

I just put one on my IS last year and when I got it mounted (under the right radiator pod) I tested it several times in the garage and the spousal unit comes out and tells me that was the most obnoxious and childest things she had ever heard and wanted me to remove it (I ignored that request ) well we were riding a couple weeks later when a Lincoln Town Car comes a calling. The driver had about a foot long Cigar hanging for  his jaw and he is drifting towards us as I get to his left rear fender well I let out a 10 second or so blast :roll:and he almost went in the ditch on the right side of the road he jerked back in his lane so hard (I chuckled ) then the wife said that was pretty cool and now she new why I put it on the IS and was glad I did so

I really like the Stebel too, but after two died early deaths mounted under the swingarm (probably too much road crap and water) I went back to electric.

Think I'm sold.  Which horn is the most compact but still packs a good punch?  Where is the best place to install on a Tourer with engine hanger covers?

On an IS without fog lights one will fit under the radiator pod and that way it stays out of the weather   I mounted it to one of the radiator bolts with a piece of galvenized strapping bent to 90 then drilled two holes one to radiator side and one to bolt on top of horn.

I also have mine under the right side pod, very effective, I must say. Here in the Orlando area it has come in handy, especially when used to awaken(not "woken up" unless you want to sound uneducated) a texting driver in front when the light changes. Sometimes it really PO's them and they tell me about it at the next light. I just smile and ask if they're in the driver's seat, if so....then drive. Also kinda fun to be sitting next to them and they have their nose buried in the phone when the light changes. I give them a blast, they jump out of their drawers and I take off. They all usually will hang back after a "horn" encounter.

You can get the WOLO Bad Boy at Oriley auto for around $40. On the tour/standard I have seen them mounted to one of the engine hanger bolts. I still need to put on on my standard

I really liked the mount already on my bike when I got it, a piece of of flat steel plate with horn bolted to the plate on its side, and plate strapped under the swingarm with two long radiator hoses (no interference with jack and adapter).  The Stebel is supposed to be mounted with the horn pointing forward (upright or on its side, not facing up to collect rainwater).  But it sucked in too much water and died, so the 2d one I mounted with the horn facing rearward.... it died again in under a year.  So maybe this hidden mount is not such a good idea.

It's pretty clunky looking mounted in the original horn position up front (and still needs a relay, unlike the original horn).

Yesterday AM an asshat decided to pull out as I was making a left turn off the main highway.  I don't take my eyes off of them. The windows were down and I just let out a holler which got his attention and he slammed on the brakes. His left headlight was inches from my left knee. As I went past him staring in the drivers window this dickhead just put his head down and looked away. Everyone screws up at times and if he had made some indication of his screw-up I wouldn't have cared.

I had women rear-end me earlier this summer while in both the old roadster and the bike.
An aftermarket horn wouldn't have helped in those 2 occasions, but, yesterday it may have. So now this has me thinking. People today just take driving for granted and don't pay attention.

Last week some nit-wit was driving the wrong way on a divided 4 lane coming right at a number of us and didn't seem to have a care in the world. He went by us and out of sight without his brake lights ever coming on.

I have one Stebel in each Radiator pod and also a set of Big BF quad horns. All on seporate relays. When I hit the horn botton it sounds like 4 Buicks comming at you... Quite effective.....

My first WOLO after an after market electric horn upgrade went where the original horn resided on the I/S-down low on the crash bars. When it died/quit/crapped out I KNEW the new one could NOT go in the same place. Long story long when I was up in Illinois at my brothers place his old-not THAT old-chrome WOLO became available. He fabbed up a bracket and the horn now resides just behind the engine and ahead of the fuel selector valve/switch. I dismantled the old WOLO and was actually surprised at how MUCH debris was in the internals of that horn/motor setup. Those of you putting them under the swingarm-if it craps out disassemble it and have a look inside. The I/S pod or the fuel side like I have mine SHOULD keep it out of the bulk of the highway crud that will ruin it eventually. WHATEVER your air horn of choice is an INVESTMENT in saving you and your passengers life. So far the good LORD has been willing to have the cage "drivers" I wake up with the air horn to pull AWAY from me.   I PRAY that continues to be the case-pulling AWAY from me and NOT into me. RIDE SAFE.

Can't say enough good things about the Quad BF. made the guy at the inspection station jump. Literally. Has saved my butt more than once. Mounting was a breeze (so easy even a 72 year old woman can do it). Support our peeps!

I'm on the second WOLO Bad Boy on my Tourer, the first was removed because of the crappy plastic chrome.  The second is likewise failing, a Stebel may be next.  I have these mounted in the same place as the OEM horn with a custom made bracket.  It's a tight fit, tucked behind the radiator and in front of the Baker air wings.  I installed the first horn in my Honda Civic and it gets drivers attention there too.

   A set of dual trumpets mounted just under the headlight on my tourer. They are just about as far forward as I can mount them. I am behind the attention getting sound.

My '92 Wing would get your attention. I was poking around a marine parts store on the waterfront in Daytona some years ago and spotted a long pair of trumpets; 17" & 19" long. I asked about them, was told they came off a small boat because the owner wanted something bigger. I bought them and put one under each saddle bag with a compressor on each side....those small beer can size units. Believe me when I say you did not ignore me when I hit that button. It sounded like the local freight train coming at you. I loved to ride down country roads and see livestock standing next to the fence....I'd hit the horn and they'd rear up and start running. My wife would pound me on the back every time and fuss at me over the mic. I'd just turn it down!

Notice when you come to a stop at any intersection with a light, first thing people do in just about every cage around you is reach for their phone.   Where I live it was rare to hear folks blowing their horns now it sounds like a bunch of NYC folks have moved down here.

Because nothing is being done about all this distracted driving I see so called "accidents" (which are NOT accidents but negligence) nearly every day.   Insurance rates are going to keep rising to account for it too.

Lots of folks still seem to be driving without having insurance.   Obviously the penalties are not harsh enough.   They either don't have any money to pay a fine or anything of value that the law can take and putting them in jail is out of the question, the jails are already overcrowded with the worst of the worst and putting them in jail just costs us taxpayers even more.

People without insurance on their vehicles should not be allowed to sue when involved in "accidents."
