While the doggy rider is not my idea of a good idea, other parts of the world just don't have the nanny state we do.  5 people on mopeds, kids in the back of a pickup (remember when WE did that and you wouldn't get pulled over?) and much more.

Was in Puerto Rico a couple years back and was astounded by the driving.  These folks pretty much do whatever, going up down ramps, cutting across four lanes to turn left AT THE INTERSECTION, they'll cut you off in a heartbeat... the difference is, no one gets miffed.

If you get cut off there, the attitude is, "Well, he made it and I didn't" and on to the next thing.  I saw TONS of things that would get horns, middle fingers and maybe a 44magnum here, but there... no big deal.

I've not been to Thailand, but have a friend that married a Thai gal and he showed me vids that are utterly amazing.. it would be riots on the street if folks did that here.. there, they just keep flowing. 

I'm not saying life is better there, just that it is pretty amazing how we've grown so accustomed to the Nanny State we don't even realize it... boil the frog slowly I guess.
