Why in addition to all the other things this Country of ours-U S of A-decides to bring ebola patients here? Man has been so good-sarcasm-at containing nuclear messes Africanized honey bees settling differences in Vietnam and the middle east-keeping ships from sinking and airplanes from crashing-I digress. They WILL screw this up just like everything else man thinks he can "fix". Our successes are few and our failures-many spectacular-are many. AND B T W-WHO gave them permission and said it was O K to bring that pestilence to our shores? And YES-I've had my coffee. AND I REALLY don't believe it's either Bushes fault. RIDE SAFE.

No one wants Duncan to die.

The mayor of Dallas declared he's "Our citizen now"..

Excellent I hope Duncan can repay all the other ACTUAL citizens of Dallas and the USA for his health care costs.

By the way the mayor is a Democrat.

The ones we are bringing here are doctors and journalists that are US citizens. You don't really want us to leave them there to die a horrible death ? The one in Dallas came here on his own under dubious circumstances. But now that he's here what would you have us do with him ?

Treat them there.

Treat him here and then send him home.

Simple really.

Ensure no others are allowed into the USA.

What would you do?

I have no problem sending him home after treatment. As far as the doctors that contracted it they would not stand a very good chance over there.

So why have we sent troops to help if they can't be of any help?

If such a place doesn't exist, immediately establish a National Emergency Medical Quarantine and Isolation Laboratory in a remote federal installation and not bring these folks ANYWHERE NEAR a high density urban population.

Take the technology to them. Don't bring them to the technology.

We have flying hospitals that are very very well equipped with everything that was and is needed to treat these Americans. Fly them over there and treat them THERE! >:(
Why do these people feel they must go to other countries to help people. Right here in the good ole US of A we have adults and children that need medical care and attention.
I just don't get it either. :uglystupid2:
Who the hell authorized that they be brought here? Do the citizens of the US not have any say in such a matter? I do not know of anyone who would have the power to authorize the bring of highly contagious, highly infectious people to the US.......Yeah I said it! NOT ANYONE! NO ONE! :tickedoff:
But that's my 2 cents worth.

May the Lord always ride two up with you!

With Haz-mat cost, hospital, doctors, background checkers..........guy better be a millionaire if he is expected to pay back expenses after lying to get to Dallas. Then his country wants him back?

THIS might work well IF they are able to CONTAIN it and KEEP it contained-which I highly doubt. I'm not that worried about myself BUT I have kids and grand kids and nieces and nephews and I know young folks that are just starting out. I DO NOT have the answers BUT I do have QUESTIONS. From what I've read about this once you contract this disease your chances of survival are not all that good. Can you say pandemic? RIDE SAFE.

No worse then the 2 (I believe) Flu pandemics we have had in the past. Except unlike the flu its not a airborne illness but rather body fluid contact. Like hep/HIV etc. I play in body fluids daily and I'm not worried.

A nurse in Spain has contacted ebola now.

They keep saying the same thing....ebola is hard to catch, blah blah blah.  I don't believe them.

If it's that damn hard to catch, why are they freaking out about how contagious it is?

Just using the guy in Dallas as an example.  Where all has he been, what all has he touched, how much money has he passed, how many of debit card readers has he used and touched?

Don't worry, we're the government and we're here to help.

Well, the head of the CDC just said he has no problem with the people coming here. He said our citizens have the right to come back here.
I'm having a hard time thinking of anything this admin has done right.

This kind of reminds me of the actions people had when AIDS came on the scene. I don't see any rationale why doctors would deceive us about it. It is a deadly disease, that's why there is such concern. If you get it you are screwed. But when you look at it objectively we have all probably been around people that have the HIV or have handled money, or debit readers and never got it. I think the little chart that Fudgie posted sums it up. If you haven't been in contact with their bodily fluids you are not going to get it.

I agree with fudgie, the key to defeating this disease (at this point) is education.    According to the CDC, even a carrier is not contagious while the disease is in it's incubation stage (21 days as I understand it).    After that, fever and other symptoms develop.     It's still not likely it's Ebola unless the person effected has traveled in that region of Africa.    Many disease have similar symptoms.    But, taking good common sense steps and avoiding fluid transfer from human to human is not all that hard to do.

I don't really feel much sympathy for those that go there (regardless of their reasons).    They know the risks.    I do not appreciate our President sending our armed forces to that region.    Our kids didn't sign up to fight bugs.    I am surprised that it's taken this long for Ebola to come to our shores.    Crossing continents and oceans is a non-issue.    Containing this disease will be a major problem among the uninformed and ignorant.      I'm not sure how to help those that won't listen and don't trust us.    This could get ugly, very ugly.

The Tuskegee syphilis experiment (/tʌsˈkiːɡiː/)[1] was an infamous clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 by the U.S. Public Health Service to study the natural progression of untreated syphilis in rural African American men who thought they were receiving free health care from the U.S. government.

[i am for sending trained military to help dying people in africa. I am not overly concerned about catching the 'ebola'.  i am for bringing sick people back to where they can get specialized care especially when something as simple as an iv drip is unavailable in many of the overwelmed clinics in africa. i beleive that most of the folks in the 'gubment' are just like us (hell they is us!) and are not part of some vast conspiracy]

On one hand the Govt did deceive the American public.

On the other hand the Govt isn't trying to deceive the American public?

Not completely relevant, but soldiers were placed in close proximity to the earliest nuclear tests. The government had to know exposure to same would have negative effects. I am very opposed to the use of soldiers in today's ebola infested areas, for the same reason. They signed up to fight, not to be coal mine canaries.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, can we scoop up a few Ebola active and send them to the ISIS via airdrop?   The chute is available only if they promise to defecate as they drop. Or is a goat a good carrier?

There is a possibility that the Ebola virus will eventually mutant into an air spread virus, and when it does; look out, the 1917 worldwide flue epidemic will look like a minor cough.

Hooter

Troops there, absolutely not. Anyone that volunteers to go there should remain until either the virus is gone / controlled or they are completely cleared after 90 day or whatever isolation period. Anyone that goes there should know by now they are looking down the barrel of a loaded gun and accept responsibility for the possible outcome, to include treatment right there, not here.  As for outsiders coming here, no, go to your own country. Flights into and out of that region should be monitored (possibly stopped) as well? How would you know if someone on a flight (citizen) has the crap if they show up with no symptoms until after they arrive home? What about decon of a contaminated plane that person may have been on? Would decon be too little too late if delayed detection of the disease? I don't know.
Why would anyone, (media especially, and I realize it is world news)  want to expose themselves to this? Would you want your husband, wife, kids, any family or frieinds going there if they are in the news business? To even travel remotely to the region is nuts. Live or die by your decision I guess.
You are never lost if you don't care where you are!

Master Blaster

Thousands of our guys sent over to fight it sounds like a good political move, but the reality is these guys will be doing the scutt work, clean up, disposal, and handling of the contaminated material that they were never trained for. What could possibly go wrong with this??   When these war weary heroes are exposed to this deadly disease and have absolutely no say in the matter, is this what they volunteered for, puppets to prop up a failed presbos declining numbers??  Some could even think its by design to bring the disease here, another in the long line of crisis that the current admin has brought on us.
