Running a little warm.

97 CT was down for a few months while chrome work getting done (not related). Back on the road but engine seems to be running a little warm? Fan is turning but not for long. Should I change thermometer first? Water Pump? Fan? or just do all three. Bike has about 50k on it. Running good and doesn't seem to be overheating it's just that engine is putting off more heat than I remember? Haven't been too far on it and cooler riding temps now. Any advice would be helpful.

Run it and check with a thermometer take the guess right out of the equation.

Is the overflow tank up to the full mark (under the left side cover)
Any coolant in the overflow tank at all?
Is the radiator full of coolant. Careful with the little set screw in the radiator cap.

Other than the thermostat nothing would really change unless the system was low before and or a leak has developed while sitting.  I have noticed over the years that a small amount of tree fuzz, bugs etc do get caught up in the rad and can starve the rad a bit.   I remove the rad every three years or so,  lay it on an old towel and wash it from the backside.  It's amazing what comes out of it.  Even in 100' temps mine holds 185-190 on the highway.

our bikes don't run warm.
this engine was designed to be fully encased in body work with side mounted radiators, the GL1500 GWs never had a heating problem.
Valkyrie engines use the same thermostat and water pump as a GL and have a forward facing radiator.

Peroxide sprayed into the radiator fins will dissolve bugs and loosen other debris. Wait a few minutes and hose out.
