Damn if I know how.

It was closed this morning before my ride across the river and I am sure
I closed but did not lock them before returning home

Lesson  ALWAYS LOCK the bags   Big potholes and bumps will get their due

I am going to take the car now and try to backtrack the 60 miles from my moms house and across the river

Wish me luck

edit

Well traced the whole trip both ways no luck   Bonnie was along to help

Does anyone have a black right saddlebag lid they want to sell from a crashed Valk ?

If not I have a set of bags from an 00 blue and silver interstate that I
mightl use or if someone knows the parts # on the fische please let me know

Would hate to have to find a painter to paint  both bags
the black and pearl beige even tho my bags do have some deep scratches

DAMN  looks like I am back to commuting on the police bike for awhile
cant leave open bags in the south bronx

Welcome to the club (had two blow off.... my own fault for not re-rigging my cable ties). One retrieved, one exploded by a mini van.

Parts fish.

Bag lids are #24, but on this '99 IS fish, are now discontinued.  You do the legwork for your '00 or '01.
When I lost mine about 18 mos ago, a black lid was still available new for $305 (course then you have to add every little nut/bolt/clamp/spacer/widget that completes a lid).  I paid $250 from a salvage yard for a black one, which ended up scraped up bad enough I had to have a bump shop fix it, so I should have just bought a new one and saved money.  (And a full credit card appeal fight with the salvage yard)

Whichever way you go, get the cable tie parts and hook them up.  What happened to me was the lid was latched in back, but over time the mounting hardware for the forward clamp halves (what the IS has instead of hinges) got crooked, so even though it was latched in back, the front popped off on a hard freeway bump, and once the wind got under it, off she went.  With the cable ties, no matter what you do, you cannot lose a lid (short of going off a mountain).

Easiest/cheapest thing would be to get a lid you already have painted and use your existing hardware.  However this will obviously decrease the value of your two used bags. (There are lefts and rights, not interchangeable)

Beware of salvage yards who refuse to provide you with a pic, and just guarantee it for color and to be serviceable.  The one I got was serviceable as a lid, a really deeply scratched fugly serviceable. (Not Pinwall Cycle, some ASShat outfit in Nebraska)

Thought I saw one in primer on eBay the other day but don't remember if was a right or left lid.

Sorry to hear Oss, I hope someone can help out, Honda doesn't even sell them anymore.

BF

Try searching for the VT1100.  Aren't they the same bag?

They would work but, the Interstate lids are different than the early tourers and VT1100
(no cables)

Oss

Carl Thank you for the offer  sent a PM

Jess, TWICE ??  Really ?

Must be a lawyer thing losing our lids   ;D

There was a cable but I did hit a series of big bumps, expansion joints and holes
and the breeze over the Hudson was around 40

That would be the VT1100T, Shadow ACE  Touer. Same paint scheme as an IS, with a seamed bag, and a cable/hinge for the Tourer.

Price is usually a lot cheaper than a Valkyrie.

Back in the day the road to Sturgis was littered with the old bag tops off of old Harl**s. Not much of a latching system then. They still come off if not latched. My buddies newer Street Glide just pewked his. He found it but it wasn't good.

I have taken off on my I/S with one or the other or both bag lids hanging on the cables.  :uglystupid2: At least one of them has been subjected to speeds above 100 M P H in the hanging by the cables regime.  :-X 4 years + of Valkyrie ownership and I still have the lids that came with the bags.  :cooldude: I have had the lids completely off for various reasons and I TRY very hard to remember to hook the cables back up.    Hope you are able to procure a lid Evan. Sorry to hear, Bro.  Just paint one of the spare covers black, or if the scratches on your bags bother you, paint both spare bags and you're done.

Oss

I took my friend Dennis up on his offer to paint the lid from
the 00 blue and silver interstate the appropriate black with clearcoat

Shipped it out to Colorado from the UPS store with
a return label and insurance.   Dennis I know you still lurk here
and I dont care if members know you really are a stand up dude.

Thanks again Willow for offering to sell me your spare
and to all who posted

REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR BAGS and yes the cables were attached

Yeah it would be almost impossible to lose an Inerstate lid. All stars must have been aligned against him on that day :-\ I have ridden with the lid hanging on the tethers for at least 50 miles and didn't loose anything.
