Another one gone

Another member of our chapter of the Korean War Veterans passed Sunday.  Carl Edwards was a combat veteran and a good family man.

He has been in a nursing home with Parkinson's Disease and at our last visit, he was unresponsive so it was expected.  Anna, another of our members who died three weeks ago, was active up to her passing at 94.

We are a very small chapter, not more than 10 of us so this has been a blow to us. We will be meeting at the funeral home tomorrow for our last goodbyes and a salute.

I read Carl's (Willow's) post on his recuperation from his 'incident'  and he most certainly has the right attitude and a way with words.  I take encouragement from them.

At 86, going on 87,  I've been seeing many friends pass on and it is hard to not dwell on it.  Carl Edward's passing came at the same time that i was scheduled for a endoscopy for followup for bladder cancer.  Fortunately, the results were negative (again) and that helped my attitude.

Thank you Willow for your insight.  I, too, depend and rely on God to continue to bless me.

    My father would always tell me the thing he hated the most about
getting older was the passing of his friends.
     Now that I am getting older I am starting to understand some of the lessons
that his generation tried to teach us.

Post Script

Carl had a wonderful funeral. The Pastor and Carl's kids spoke a few words.  The family requested one thing.

They asked that the seven of us Korean War Vets would please come forward individually and slow salute at the casket.  We did but I didn't expect Carl's oldest daughter to hug each one of us as we did an about face away from the casket.  Darn gnats.

Wayne you and I have not met but I enjoy your post ,thank you for your service and for your friend (I assume )my prayers to his family.
