Anyone what to chime in on a 195 60 or a 175 60  my Michelin 205 rubs the fender on the right side just a tad and nut cage is gone. Plenty of swing arm room. I do not want a 55.   what about a 65?  I realize the Austone is an option. any other options?

You can use washers where the fender rails mount to the frame to pull the fender away from the tire.  It was many years ago when I had to do this when installing my first 205/60 tire.  You may be able to find something in either Shop Talk, the Tech board, or Tech archives that describes how to do it.

look at the fender at the back. does it center with the tire? if not bend the mounting arms so it does,, rub all gone now?

I've got a 195/60 Yokohama . I like it best of the tires I've used :cooldude:

I'm mulling this over as well.
Pretty slim pickin's in 195/60-16 (25.3") so I am seriously considering the Yoko Avid ENVigor in 195/55-16 (24.4").

I'm removing a 205/60-16 (25.6") that is simply too square. I really don't care much about the rpm change, although I'll regret that if the fuel mileage dives below the 30's. It'll certainly make it "quick".

I'd be real interested to read feedback from anyone running a 195/55-16.

Im using a 205/60/16 Falken ziex 905 i got at Belle Tire here in Michigan... I did the nut cage, but I was told I wouldn't need to... but since I was in there, I just took care of it. No rubbing issues...

Just do the washer mod.  I have 3 washers on the right side of the fender to move my fender over for the 205-60-16 tire, nut cages removed.

Sorry, I can't help the O.P. (I've never run anything other than 205/55's) but..........
Earl43p, the 195/55/16 is the preferred DS size on the gl1800 board, (& I can tell you for a fact the 205/55 will fit on an '05 Wing).
If you're lookin' for "test pilot" reviews, this is the place for the 195/55.

I ran a 195-55 for around 4 years and prior to that I ran 205-55s. The 195 was just as good if not better ,less bump steer due to smaller width. I got around 25000 miles on them for less than $100, can't beat that.

Jerry, do the washer mod, it's real simple and I had to do it as well as the nut cage. It pulls the rear fender a bit off center to the right but you don't see it unless pointed out. Took a minimum amount of time and you get to keep the tire you're running. The washers are cheaper than a new tire.  ;)

If I make it to Stumpknockers Saturday you can see my set up.

Thanks everyone.   I did the double washer trick on the right side (i get it----how it works---I'm slow and had to just do it to fully understand) and I also changed the nut to a thinner one and cleaned up some sharp edges around the nut where the cage was as it clearly had rubber on it. I believe I can keep the 205 60.

Finished work.

Looks good Brother! I had to use carriage bolts & run them out from the inside to keep my 205 with us two up.
Glad ya got it workin'.

Next time the tire is off for maintenance. Clean sharp edges good, clean and shoot with a little spray paint to keep from rusting on you. That's all normally part of the nut cage mod.  :cooldude:
