Australia is hosting the world leaders at the G20 summit this weekend.
Notice that security personnel attached to the leaders are not permitted to carry guns.
This applies to all including those attached to Putin & Obama.
Gun laws seem to work & are accepted as the norm by Australians.

Only one day to go & no applications for guns made.
They have to go through the Federal Govt which considers the application.
If approved it then has to go through the Queensland State police commissioner.
This takes time, so too late now.
I live in Toowoomba a city of 120,000.
Never see a gun & I don't even know anyone who has a permit.
I feel safe walking the streets at night.

In response to BF re dumbasses.
The Queensland Govt has passed laws to control patch clubs like Hells Angels etc.
See the regulations.
https://www.qld.gov.au/law/laws-taxes-elections-and-complaints/queensland-laws-and-regulations/new-criminal-bikie-gang-laws/
This followed a public brawl by the Bandidos in 2013.
The public has had enough & supported the new laws.
Hells Angels challenged it in the High Court of Australia but failed.
Lot less dumbasses around now
Normal motorcycle clubs ( historical, local, etc ) have no concerns & not affected.
Just got rid of the bad eggs.

Certainly plenty of comment to my post.
The point I was trying to make it WHY there is no need to carry guns.
A different society so no need to carry.
Not controlled by government but a very free lifestyle which we value.
I attend a Ulysses motorcycle club annual rally with 5000 others.
No guns so it must say something.

Cause the bad guys wouldn't dream of trying to use any firearms.

They'll be tooled up with boomerangs.

..

EDIT

No applications to carry firearms have been submitted as of today.

Bit of a difference eh?

Ill be surprised to learn that Obama went and was brave enough to follow the no guns for his Secret Service detail rule.

In the 10 years following implementation of the draconian gun laws in Australia, violent crime tripled and murder doubled. There were similar results in the UK.
Gun deaths did go down, but at the expense of doubling the murder rate.
Gun laws don't work. They never have. They didn't there, They haven't anywhere.

Shock and surprise, murderers, thieves, and rapists thrive among an unarmed public. Who the H3ll could have seen that coming.

And finally, gun laws are not accepted as the norm by all Australians. It was enforced on all Australians. There are still at least a few freedom loving folks down under. http://www.foaa.com.au/

Good on ya man.  Brainwashed and you don't know it.  You'd fit right in, in The People's Republic of Californistan.  And vote for Feinstein and Pelosi.  In the rest of the US (except the NE) - not so much.

NFW the secret service assigned to Obummer will be disarmed.  Betcha a case of Samuel Adams on that.  The advance process whenever Zero (or any of our past POTUS's ) goes anywhere, especially in foreign countries is phenomenal.  And we pay for it.  They even fly in his fuel for all his vehicles and Big Blue - and secure everything for miles around including all the roads he will be on.  Your traffic will be FUBAR'd.  And their guns are FULL-AUTO as well as a large sniper detail in hides on the high ground.

I understand you don't want to break in my house or anyone else's but the criminal element don't see things the same way. Your chances of getting out alive there are a lot better than here.
Also you must understand we have 15x the population as Austrailia. 23.1 million for them versus 316.1 million here so obviously we will have more crime.

Bighead , those rate are per capita not total amounts. Our total amounts DWARF them. The point I'm trying to make is; just because we have unfettered access to guns doesn't make us as a nation safer. There are many things that go into it. As far as the statistics of their crime rate going up , if you have 12 home invasions in the country in 1997 and you have 16 in 1999 that is a huge % increase . Vice versa if you have 5000 murders here in 1997 and in 1999 you have 5500 the %'s aren't near as great but the effect is pretty huge.

Bighead

All in the way you look at it I guess I will keep my guns and take my chances, you can turn yours over if you want.  But don't ask for help if you do.

It is per 100,000 people. So for every 100,000 people in Australia they have 1.1 murders and in the US we have 4.7 . Pretty big difference.

Would you rather have citizens turn in their guns and have them outlawed and take the gamble that we'd all be safer without them?

Safety is relative and there are many factors that influence it.  Your location, the economic situation there, how vulnerable you appear to be, etc.

And where do you get the notion that we have unfettered access to guns?

I agree with your statement about safety. As far as access to guns, it is pretty easy to get a gun is it not ?

Yes, it is 'pretty easy' to get a gun if you're a lawful citizen.  You can thank the 2nd Amendment for that. It is NOT 'pretty easy' to get a gun legally in some areas of our country.

It is also 'pretty easy' to get a gun illegally if you're a criminal since you're 'unfettered' by some 20,000 gun laws.

And please don't bring up the tired argument that if we didn't have guns, neither would the criminals.

I once admired the Australians because it seemed to me that they were much like our citizens were in the 1880's.  Independent and self reliant.  The very fact that Australia's elected have changed some of its citizens to thinking that government knows best, has changed my opinion.

You notice that I say some.  I'm sure there are many Aussies that still are self reliant but I bet that you have to look hard for them.

Not in NY.  Form filled out in triplicate.  4 notarized affidavits from non-family members that your an OK person.  Certificate of completion of firearm safety course.  Pay fee.  Wait.  Wait.  Wait.  Denied.  No reason.  Nobody to ask.  It's like asking a block wall for permission.  Wait a year.  Try again.  Wait.  Wait.  Wait.  Approved, maybe, maybe not.  But when/if you do finally get approved, now you take the permit for gun range and home defense use only to the gunshop and you can now legally purchase a gun.

Wayne, I`m not making any arguments about criminals getting guns. I`m not making any arguments about taking away guns. The ONLY argument I was making is that just because we have guns in our country doesn`t make us safer than Australians. Which is what some believe.

Meathead, I kinda know what you mean.  Of course the original intent of the 2nd Amendment was not to make us 'safer' per se. .  It was to insure that we had a government that would listen to the citizens. We are the only country in the world that has a 2nd amendment.

For proof of what i say, read Hamilton's 46th Federalist paper.

As far as safer, yes, i personally feel safer and i am safer when I'm carrying.

It's an imperfect world, especially now.
