When I parted out my friends IS a couple months ago.  One of the things I wanted to keep was the shocks.  Well, they were very rusted and not going to go on my bike as they were.  So I didn't offer them for sale for anyone else either.

So, I sanded them down until they were as smooth as they were going to get.  All the rust sanded off and the bigger pits sanded down until they were able to be filled in with primer.

Two coats of primer and then 3 coats of automotive lacquer.  Now they are sweet.

What I plan is to use carbon fiber wrap on the middle section and wide chrome tape and red pin striping on the top section.

With the new bags, the shocks hardly show, but they will be unique if they do peek out at anytime

Or, I could just leave them black......what do you think?

leave them black.....looks like a nice job

That would be awesome, but I have never seen any other color than the grey.......

Sorry that link didn`t work like i wanted it to. If you go on there you will find some colored carbon fibre wrap. I recently bought some green, but it was a lighter shade than i wanted.

Ya, that's what Im afraid of too.  After thinking it over, if the red is not the same shade it would be tacky.  So its back to the dark grey or just leaving it black....

That's cool looking.

I've always liked the look of the OEM shocks, I think Honda got them right.

But when they go over, that looks like a good fix. :cooldude:

what about that paint process where you put the graffic in water then pull your product up through it then clear coat it? i cant remember where i saw that but thought it was way cool..

Ok, so, its a gloomy rainy day...no riding here.  So I finished the small project.  Even using the heat gun the carbon fiber wrap was a buggar to lay perfectly flat on the profiled part of the middle section...I thinks its close enough once on the bike.

The chrome tape just wasn't high enough quality, it looked cheap.

So what you guys think?  Will look ok on the red and white when the current shocks wear out?

Very nice work.  :cooldude:

(there's no wood in there, is there?  ;D)

Remove the red stripe and ship them to me for some testing.....I'll send them back after 70 to 80  thousand miles of real world testing is done.....  ;)  :cooldude:

Is that stuff gonna hold up to the adjustment spanner? Or are you going to leave it where it's at? By the way, they look way cool :cooldude:

I am going to adjust them ONCE.......I think the wrap will hold up.  They are on five, I use setting #3  never change it, just leave it there even when pulling a trailer 2 up.

This Carbon Fiber is pretty neat stuff.  Im gonna try it on the fuel cap base for awhile to see if it cuts down glare.  Looks kinda different.

R those bushings the black rubber or newer green poly for VTX and Valkyrie??  Poly is much better IMO.

Those are my last two bushings from Gary.  They are plenty good

Nice work Chris, first time I've seen that done with a shock, pretty slick :cooldude: That would look sweet on a blacked out standard.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

Kinda on this subject, Has any one ever dis-assembled a set of these shocks?  I've never done it and wondered if they come apart.  The reason I ask is I have a perfect set of standard shocks and a not so perfect set of IS shocks that I'd like to swap the covers on.
