In Need of Front Brake Help

In an effort to start picking away at some routine maintenance items on my new to me 99 IS, I messed up and need some help identifying where this part goes.
I was attempting to change out the front brake fluid as it was tea colored. I took off the cover, siphoned out what I could from the reservoir with a suction bulb type thing, then used a rag to soak up remaining fluid. When I pulled the rag away I heard a little ding as something hit the floor. It is only identified as a "protector", # 11 in the picture.
Can anyone tell me where it goes & if the is a particular orientation to it when put back where it belongs.
