I'm friggin going to lose it if one more person throws their cigarette out the window at me. Maybe I should carry some fireworks with me and start a war.

Let it go.  Life is short.

Install a flame thrower on the front of that bike.

Take up chewing tobacco. Pass them and spit.

Vehicles don't have ash trays anymore do they. Even if they do, that means they have to be emptied.  Its easier to litter.  Folks don't pay attention to their driving anymore, so, they certainly aren't going to care where they flick their butts.
I don't know how folks can afford to smoke today, $10 a pack. That money buys a lot of beer.

The emperor has no clothes

All good ideas. But I think I'm going to bag up the dog crap in our back yard and carry it around as ammunition. That will show them :o

I had hot ashes bounce up in my face a couple of months ago when the dribble in front of me decided he was done with his cig...Besides running up beside him and honking my horn and yelling at the SOB, I ran my high beams on him all the way to my exit (dual silverstars are kinda bright...ya know)...about 15 miles.  Hehe...the dweeb thought he could get away from a dragon...and tried a few times...but failed... :D  Hopefully, I left a lasting impression on the turd but I really doubt it.

I have a copy of a sign that is No Smoking in about 15 different languages.  The original was hanging on a ship fueling station visited by multiple nationalities.   Figure they can get the point with that...right??

The bright spot of my recent hospital stay after my bike crash was after 14 days in the hospital, I no longer smoke.  If you are a smoker in the hospital I was in they treat that addiction as well as your injuries.  A small perk from two weeks in Intensive care.  Thank you Stormont Vail medical center in Topeka. I've been clean for the three weeks after I was discharged, and I'm loving it.  Hoser   :cooldude:

BIG congrats as well Hoser, good for you.  You will be better off no matter what from here on out.  Just think of all the money saved you could be spent fixin up the bike or more gifts for the misses?  :2funny:

Seriously,  I recently the past few years have lost an aunt and uncle due to heavy smoking all their lives on oxygen the past few years all the time along with my uncle's wife being a chain smoker, same thing lungs totally gone in their 60's.  Way to young to go for something that could have been prevented years ago.  All 3 were too stubborn, as is that entire side of the family entirely, to quit.   My dad smoked for about 20 years and died of COPD, etc. am sure a lot had to do with smoking for 20+ years early on from age 20 to early 40's.

Keep up the good work.  Many employers are now jacking up their insurance rates for smokers nearly double just because they smoke.  One lady at work will have to quit since she recently got promoted full time status with health insurance and she said the rates are double for her if she doesn't quit smoking by Jan. 1st.  Another lady at work I like to work with smokes constantly in her late 40's and I rag her on it as well,  but just like my family,  too stubborn to attempt to even quit.

Meathead, I take it that you don't smoke. You didn't say. Hoser, I hope you realize not smoking is aiding in your recovery. Twice as long...twice as hard if you smoke. You're doing your body good by not smoking and if you can persevere, you will eventually reverse most damage done by smoking.

I'm 67, quit 15 years ago. It's scary to think about how I felt before quitting and how good I now feel fifteen years later. I'm still in much better shape now and feel younger and much better than before I quit.  Beyond that im lucky enough to still be healthy so maybe I dodged a bullet.

The most surprising thing about it was how easy it was to quit once I decided to go through with it.

$10.00 / day = $3,500 / year X 15 years = $52,500.00 actual out of pocket + ROI = a lot of neat toys & nice trips plus the chance to enjoy more trips & toys for years to come.

I started smoking about the 6th grade in school, quit around the age of 40 but started again 14 years ago. I'll be 68 next month.

It has now been 2 weeks since my last cigarette and it has not been easy, they are the most evil addiction.

Good on you Hoser and anyone else who has quit. The last time I was re-hooked I was out drinking with a bunch of guys from bowling who also smoked and I grabbed one thinking I was strong enough to not get hooked again, hope I don't make that mistake again.

I quit bowling some time ago and took up golf, still drink.

When I was a smoker, I'll admit it, I tossed 'em out the window. But, I always made sure there were no motorcycles (Or even convertibles!) behind me before doing so. But that's behind me now.

The secret is to not have that next cigarette... And then don't have the next one after that, repeat ad infinitum...

And same as Mr. Weaver, previous quits I'd do fine for an extended period, go out with buddies drinking and figure I could just have one, and BAM! I was a smoker again.

I had to come to the self realization that no, I can NOT just have one. Ever. Again.

As far as how long since my last one, well... see below... ;)

Keep on keeping on!

Take this for what ever it's worth to YOU. April 20-21 2002 I was over 4 packs a day smoking. NOT a misprint-4+ packs a DAY.  :uglystupid2: 20th was a Saturday night and the last smoke out of a pack I thought I had coughed up a lung. I asked my Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST for help on the smoking thing and I have NOT touched one since.   Cause I KNEW I was NOT that strong by myself. 4+ pack a day habit so NO-I was weak. And here I am almost 13 years smoke free and I ask him-JESUS CHRIST-for help on things every day even on the no smoking. He hears me and he helps me cause I'm STILL smoke free! RIDE SAFE.

Carry a small sack of ball bearings, the actual round ball.

If someone flip a cigarette out at ya, pass them, take the bearings out of the sack and toss them straight up in the air.     Most of them will land all over the windshield and it will put a lot of nice beautiful STARS in the glass.

Don't know if it will stop  the tossing, but it sure as hell is a good wake up call, plus if ya handle the bearings with gloves on, no prints and even if they find one, there will be no prints on it.

At todays prices no way no how could I afford a 4+ pack a day habit. What-3 cartons a week at $40.00 a carton $120.00 a week $480.00 a month would in my case equal NO Phatt Ghurl and NO RIDING.  :uglystupid2: That's about $6300.00 a year. Been retired comin on 6 years SOOOO I would have smoked up a couple of Valkyries some nice road trips and another good used car.  :crazy2: NOT to mention how much more my HEALTH would have been affected towards the bad side.  :-X The sad part of smoking-the young folks have ZERO clue that the REAL damage shows up later in life!  :'( RIDE SAFE.

Bad advice from an ex cop.   :o  Intentional malicious damage is a chargeable offense and it's not a great idea to start a "who can throw bigger" contest with a multi-thousand pound vehicle driver.

Pick your spot.  Pick your fight.  Choose to win.

Having read the above post, I am sort of concerned that  have never had anyone throw a butt out the window.   Maybe it's because most of the areas I have lived in have pretty good penalties for throwing burning object out of the window.   Maybe just lucky.   It the butt hit me, I would probably take offence to it and do something both of us would regret.

Hoser, great to hear you have been able to stop.  Keep it up.

Spittin's just as bad as flippin'. I was leaving town on a two-lane and the traffic coming at me was stopped and the line was long (everybody coming home from work). A couple guys in a pickup saw me coming and the driver decided to make me his target and it landed on the edge of my helmet right next to my eye. Naturally I was outraged but got myself in check and stopped (since no one was behind me) and I could see him checking his mirror to see what I was going to do. I yelled at him and he stuck his head out of his window and I gave him a big ole smile and a thumbs up and told him "good shot" and turned around and rode off. if I would have acted on impulse, no telling what would have happened. I lived to tell the story.

Wow, you have some self control for sure, not many of us would have taken it so lightly.   I had 2 teenage girls in front of me stopped at a red light both texting.  Beeped the horn when light turned green to wake them both up,  they floored the engine and I caught up and they both flipped me off.

I think the best thing to do is write down their license plate number, call the cops, and let them have a go at them.

As far as smoking not causing issues if quitting after say 10-20 years of smoking, not so sure on that.  Everyone is different though and some make it go unscathed like George Burns, others not so lucky.  One thing for sure, the sooner you quit, the better off you maybe in the long run - key word being 'maybe'.

You are a better man than I :cooldude:. I don`t think I would have been able to control my temper. Good on you. Thankfully I haven`t gotten to out of control with it yet. About 3 years ago riding to work early in the morning someone threw one out and it exploded in sparks by my front wheel. Scared the crap out of me. I was very pissed and blasted by them flipping them off. As i cooled down a little I realized I was going to have a stop at a signal light and I thought I hope they don`t shoot my ass as they come up to me . The other day when it happened it was a young girl in the passengers seat. I pulled up to them at the light and gave her a thumbs up and said thanks for the ciggarette. She looked at me like she had no idea. :uglystupid2:

There have been more than a couple of large fires started in Colorado by some dumbass throwing a cigarette butt out the window.  It doesn't take much to turn a grass fire into a full blown forest fire around here.
