Do a vacuum leak down test on the petcock. You may be starving for fuel.

Have you advanced your timing? Advancing your timing with a trigger wheel or the ECT Mod will give you a better low end but take away from the top end.

Yes a tad low but why would you need it to go over that? Is yor MPG GOOD? Engine run without misses or cutting out?

Daniel hooks a mity-vac to the petcock vacuum line and sucks some negative
pressure (don't pump the diaphragm out through the vacuum port  )
on it... the vacuum should hold.

You get to look down the fuel outlet and see the little flap close...

I was thinkin that too. Darkside, windshield, bags will all contribute to slowing u down on the big end. I've seen as high as 140 on mine (indicated) but have none of the above and was tucked. + attic rat worked some magic on it. The wind resistance is insane at those speeds. Just by letting off the gas at 100+ it feelslike hitting the brakes. The fat girls are not aerodynamic at all. With all that said she should do a little better than that. Next time try winding out 4th till u hit 7000 on the tach. Seems to help push mine higher than if i shift early.

Oh, and carfeful out there....

On my I/S-nuttin taken off of it-I've pushed her to 130ish a couple of times and she WUZ NOT bustin a sweat to do that. I'm D/S on a 205-65-16. AND she is gittin close to a hundred grand on the clock.  RIDE SAFE.

I don't know if you bought the bike new, but its sounds like someone may have changed the trigger wheel...I have a tourer with a trigger wheel that was installed by the previous owner and it does exactly the same thing, around ll5 it just stays there...if you're looking for a higher top end, go back to a stock gear....the Bonneville top speed record for a stock 97 standard is 137.4 over a 4 mile run..

My 2000 IS doesn't go as fast as some of you guys, especially using GPS. Had it a little over a 100 a couple of times in the past, kind of wobbles around, I don't stay in it very long. Now it wobbles at 80 mph. Speedo shows about 5 to 7 mph faster than GPS at that speed. Happy that  I don't need speed any more!    Firefighter

My 2000 IS doesn't go as fast as some of you guys, especially using GPS. Had it a little over a 100 a couple of times in the past, kind of wobbles around, I don't stay in it very long. You've got something going on. Should be stable as hell at 100 and definitely at 80. I'd check your tires closely and maybe the balancing.

I have a new metzler 880 up front and yokohama ct on the rear, both have ride-on which I have used for several years with no problems. I have new progressive 440 shocks, and have installed head bearings checked everything else. I did have some wobble before the head bearing change which went away temporarily, but now is back. I tried to re-torque but it is still there. I have started threads on this before. I am going to try to tighten the head bearings a little more and see if that helps. I have a problem when I hold the bike up at a stand still and shake the handlebars back and forth and then stop, the whole front end keeps shaking for a second. I can feel this at slow speed when I turn in a driveway for example, kind of un-nerving. Feels like loose head bearings but I don't know. I have not had a lot of time to work with this lately and my interstate takes quite a bit of time to adjust these bearings.

Good idea. I think Grumpy attributed his crash a few months ago to bad swingarm bearings. Defintely worth checking out

I did not take them out but did rear maintenance a couple months ago and found no play in the swing arm. Feels like front end, need time to tear into it again. Last time I re-torqued to 10 foot pounds, book calls for 9. Don't know how critical the torque is, but I want to experiment some. But I have to take the IS faring off and its easy but time consuming as I have stuff mounted under there.  Firefighter

You should look at the rear and how much weight you are carrying in the bags and trunk.

Especially so if there is some looseness in the bags, trunk and contents.

Trying to hold the bike while standing and shaking the handlebars is not a good measure

of anything.

With some riders, they cause their own wobble problems attributable to the death grip

they use when riding high speed.

I have hit the low 130s several different times on my 2000 I/S with side bags full & a passenger. Ran up to 120s then a slower climb to the 130s. Then I jacked up & installed an inline fuel filter even though it was a very high end so called racing filter I was robbing the engine of fuel on the top end.. I ride with a few crotch rocket owners so I like & tend to cruise in the area 0f 80 - 85 mph & love to punch it playing around. Needless to say I took it back off after a few months.. LOL.. So you might want to check for an extra fuel filter installed.. Also I know that just like our 1500 Wing brothers our speedos @ high ends show about 5mph than actual speed.

I have taken the bags off and the wallo or wobble was still there. As for shaking the handle bars while stopped, it does continue to shake for a second or so and I can feel that when I turn at slow speed like into a drive way or something. This is a little un-nerving and it did not used to do this. When I figure it out I will post what cause it.  Thanks  Firefighter

Will try, things are up in the air at the moment, large plumbing job, my weakest talent! But what I do is sit on the bike, no kickstand and shake the handle bars back and forth quickly, then hold them still and the whole bike quivers or continues to shake for a second. Like something is not tight like it should be. Feels like steering head or loose front wheel, but it's not at the wheel and I cannot find anything loose anywhere. Wouldn't care except it does come in to play during slow speed turning. I remember this on a trip once before I changed the head bearings. After bearing change I think this went away for a while.
