IMHO, humans should always be considered suspect, until proved otherwise to your satisfaction.

The population explosion of the last century also results in more odd-ball, nut-job, wing-nut humans than we used to have.  Just math, a certain percentage will always be dirt heads and a waste of oxygen.

Meth rarely brings out the best in people, so I read.

The steady decline of family, church, and essential values when being raised is also a big contributor.

Not exactly on point, but close.

"League of Fathers".
A guy moved into the neighbrhood and had to register.
6 of us went over to his house with some chips and a six pack. He opened the door and we went in. Sat down and had the welcome talk.  Block party, we want you there, no prejudgement.
A kid goes missing we come here first.
Great talk. He re-registered in another neighborhood a year later.
Just imagine if the creep ran into 4 Dads instead of Stone Phillips as he rushed out of the house.
I'll bet the cops wouldnt look too hard.
