Well I'm going on my first ever toy run ride today. I've always shied away from huge groups of riders in the past. Some say between 1200 to 1700 riders today. I've always been worried about the riders that ride 2 or 3 times a year and having one plow into me. But my wife really wants to do it and like for her to ride with me as much as possible. So I'm not going to say no. Wish me luck guys. I think I might have to go the chiropractor afterwards from doing the "Linda Blair Exorcist move" Grin

I've been on a few of those huge rides and my advice is to try to be very near the front.  That way you will avoid the dreaded accordion effect, you know when you have to suddenly brake hard, and then everybody gets going really fast and then brake again.  I've experienced that where I'll be going as fast as 80 and then quickly slowing to 15, over and over again.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I'm going with some of my riding buddies so I'm not sure if I can get more to the front but I'll give it a shot. cooldude

either that or be the very last in the lineup that way you know you are not going to get hit from behind?

I'm never the fastest nor the slowest in a large group.  I have followed a Valk rider once was enough for me he braked WAY too hard in EVERY corner forcing me to lock up darn near my brakes in every turn driving like way, way too slow.  I eventually had to learn to drive super slow well in advance of every corner he always seemed to ride the brakes super hard, not to my liking for sure.

Hope it went well and your wife had a good time, but I'm sure you've found out by now that toy runs are a haul ass, slam on the brakes, haul ass, slam on the brakes, haul ass, slam on the brakes parade with a little duck walking throw in for good measure.

I'm not a fan.

Just got back. It wasn't as bad as I feared but it's not my cup of tea. My wife really enjoyed it so it looks like it's going to be a yearly thing. Almost screwed up right off the bat though. There were MANY bikes maybe 1,800 - 2,000 and as we took off from the parking lot onto the Hiway I was on the right trying to give riders to my left plenty of room and got pitched off the shoulder into soft dirt. Luckily I powered thru it and was able to jump back on the pavement. But yeah it was 25 miles of 65 mph to 15 mph and back and forth. Out of all the bikes only 2 other Valks. No new F6b's or new valkyries either  Undecided
