Had time to kill today after picking up some Valk parts and ordering a few parts for my wife's Roadstar.
So I went to visit a couple of other dealers (Euros), and saw two bikes that really hit me as being really interesting (to me at least).

BMW R nineT

Moto Guzzi Grifo

I had a pearl white 2009 Moto Guzzi Griso 8v just like the one pictured. Read up on the Griso over at www.wildguzzi.com

If you're over 5'9" be sure to test ride one for fit.

Personally, I'd chose a Guzzi V Twin over a BMW Boxer any day.

I am renting a BMW R1200R in Ireland in April. I'm really looking forward to it. The last time I rode a BMW was probably '78.

I've always liked BMWs and had a couple prior to getting the Valk. The Valk is my first Jap bike.
I like the Guzzi's too. I sure wouldn't be afraid to buy either.

Yep sure do!
The 500cc Falcone horizontal single.

I guess that I'm remembering simpler times and lighther motorcycles.
Maybe I'm just getting old (sigh).

I like both also, but I'm old fashioned. Think the BMW R nineT should have more of a rear fender.

The BMWs are really nice bikes, but don't sell well in this area because the nearest dealer/service is over 150 miles away. My favorite Euro bikes are the Ducattis and there is a dealer only an hour away. But I guess I'll stick to the US made "Jap" bikes for now because I've had such good experiences with them.

I know, but, you know what I meant.  At the time I wasn't a Honda guy, so, the name just meant Jap to me. I was around for the Japanese invasion of the 60's, and, at that time said I would never own one of those things. I think I've since learned to never say never.

I owned a BMW R1150R for a little over 6 mos. It handled beautifully, ran well, very quiet, and had a very linear torque curve. A little faster in the 1/4 mi. than the Valk as well. The slight forward lean while on the bike eventually got to me though. Traded that one for a VMAx.

Rode a BMWr1200c this week looks good, seemed pretty fast but didn't like the ride and it seemed like a smooth European Harley. I also looked on how to repair it in the event it had a problem and without their 15k computer it will be impossible except for small repairs. I took the tank off it and it has a full sized ABS unit standing upright under it along with 3 computers. Can you say CAAA CHING. I have never liked the Ducati as I could never get used to all the engine noise.

Had a BMW R90S back in the 70s... First bike I ever owned.  Great bike for what it was.  Duel, horizontally opposed twin.  Drive shaft. (All BMWs since 1923)  Smooth ride.  went on to 754 and 554 Hondas, Yami 850 special, Harley 1200 Sportster, Honda 750 Ace (still have it) and the Valk.

Not all BMWs today are shaft driven.
The opposed twins and touring inline fours and sixes have shafts.
The vertical twins use belt drives.
Some singles have belt drives while the dirt bikes use chains.
And the S1000RR and the S1000R hyperbikes are chain drive.

Haven't kept up with them... All drive shaft up until at least the late 70s.

BMW - Break My Wallet

My other bike is a custom /2 conversion.  I've put around 30K miles on an R90 and spent some time on an R1100RT.  My last Guzzi was an 850 Eldorado.  My first "big" bike.
