SONY caves to terrorist threats and allows theaters to back out of contracts and then pulls it altogether.

I hate that they caved and it's all about money.  The theater companies are also to blame.  It's all about the bucks, 'bout the bucks, 'bout the bucks.  98% of theaters are multi-theater thingies and they believed people would be too afraid and it would effect the ticket sales of all the movies showing.

Gingrich says we lost our first cyber war.  I agree.  What's to stop any terrorist organization from threatening another industry.  No More Football.  If another game is played, a 9/11 like attack will happen at a stadium during a game and kill 60,000.  You think the NFL will cave?  Next person to buy a Chevy will have a plane flown into their house.  Does GM shut down Chevy especially if it's part of multi-co. dealerships?

Interesting!!! I have worked with film makers in the past and this action they took seem out of character for them. Now if they, bitched, cried, bite, kicked all the way till the end, it would make more sense.

Yes they are ! Unfortunately I think it's like Gman said, it's all about money. They figured they would be money ahead this way instead of doing the right thing. It's too bad corporations don't think they will be rewarded for doing the right thing. I would have went to see it if they would have manned up.

Insurance?

The few clips/sounbites I've seen/heard reveal the movie to be awful.

I've also heard that some of the hacked emails have certain producers named blacked out.

Why would a N Korea cyber terrorist bother to do that. Howabout a disgruntled Sony employee would do that?

About the money?  Of course it is in large part.  Corporations (business entities that represent you and me) are in business to make money.  Sometimes they do nice charitable things, but even then they can be accused of doing so for positive publicity and future sales.  It's what they do.

Maybe they were in a no win situation.  What if they went ahead and insisted on distributing the poorly made move and the threat was actually carried out?  Wouldn't a lot of people blame Sony for irresponsibly moving ahead?  And once more wouldn't the complaint have been that it was all about the money?

Stupid movie. I wouldn't have bothered to see it anyway.  I would have, however, hated to see a lot of people murdered by a rogue nation just because someone wanted to prove that rogue nation couldn't push them around.

Not to worry. Its all fixed. Sony has brought in sharpton to fix the email and the underlying racial problems. So, nothing to see here now, its all good.
Just think, with all this recent demand for him he can now probably afford to pay his back taxes.

Here's the perfect reason to stop the stupid "Gun Safe" zones theaters have become, making them a target rich shooting range for the criminally insane - and now terrorists.  I'd welcome the opportunity to blow away a jihadist - or several.  Lived long enough already.  Vaguely recall a quote - "Don't piss off an old man - he'll just shoot you."   Not that I pay any attention to such signs anyway.  I figure it's my duty to protect the fine Americans there.  My .45ACP carry is equipped with Crimson Trace.

Now I just need to go get my SCUBA ticket recertification so I can pick it up where I store it - on the bottom of Lake Michigan about 8 mile ESE of Racine Harbor....

Sony Pictures - bunch of PUSSIES.

You mean Americans, obviously, since the movie was set to open here, not abroad.

I seriously doubt there are N Korean sleeper cells waiting outside any theaters in the US waiting for a movie to open.

I seriously doubt there are N Korean sleeper cells anywhere in the US.
It would be impossible for them to acclimate unnoticed.

Its all smoke & mirrors.

They blamed Benghazi on a stupid movie as well.

We have enabled outside entities to censor the USA.  We have lost.

Again, what's to stop outside entities from doing this to something you may not find stupid.  What if the NFL went ahead with their games in my example and a terrorist org. managed to plant someone as the Good Year Blimp pilot and blew up Giant stadium and 60,000.  Do we blame the NFL?

The blame will always be on the terrorist, except in the eyes of the left, for them, America is always al fault.

Just was watching the news and they said another movie studio caved on a movie. Interesting as time goes on, the plot is thickening. In view of global censorship, I have noticed on TV and even movies allot of images, or objects in the scenes are being blurred or focused out on thing that are not unusual. I see this more and more often, like a silent form of censoring.

I wish I could recall what I was watching, but I saw the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center blurred out in the background.  I remember commenting to my kids when I saw it and they both agreed on what we were (not) seeing.  Darn, wish I could remember.

They said another movie co. caved like sony and another stopped in pre-production.

We have allowed a small, failing country on the other side of the world to censor what is produced and sold in America.  The terrorists have won.  We arrested a filmmaker because someone blamed widespread choreographed attacks on a youtube trailer for the movie he made (not the actual movie, the trailer for the movie).  {Anyone know whatever happened to that guy?}

After 9/11, we were told to go out and shop, or else the terrorists would have won.  I guess this time we should all go to the movies?

And if they can hack a tremendous private company's IT system, a Japanese company at that, how hard do you think they'll have to work to get into local, state, or fed gov't systems???  This is the scary thing that is taking a back seat to the hypocritical reaction to racist comments the media and the left are having.  Oprah says to not pass judgment on what someone says in the privacy………… but it was different when a rich white guy said something racist.  He lost his ball club.   Even Sharpton says not to judge until yadda, yadda, yadda.  Go figure   uglystupid2

We've lost a lot more than a cyber war.

We're screwed.  Citizens are protesting for a new police and judicial system and chanting that they want dead cops.  When police, fire, and EMS show up in certain neighborhoods, they are attacked.  And this was before grand jury verdicts regarding men that fought with police and lost their lives because they made that choice.

It's all backwards.  We should be leveling N. Korea (this isn't the first thing they've done in the past several years) and placing blame where it belongs instead of "amending" things to appease those who can't follow rules.

I'm ranting now.  Good night!

I don't know what the answer finale is, to correct this whole scenario. But in my opinion we just saw our countries testicle castrated, our tails between our legs. We may look at it as it is the studios problem, but globally people look at that, as the American people got castrated. Sounds dumb, I would say the perfect example is, the destruction of the twin towers. See they blamed the innocent American people for what the government was doing out of our view, so if the American company or government folds, it looks like all of the American people have caved in.  So basically our image and respect to the world, just got flushed down the toilet. Just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I love this  country and the citizens in it. But the way I see it it our government is always sticking their noses in other countries business. Always screwing with other countries government and so on. I use to work for a global company and some of the people I have talked to, that have been abroad and work abroad have found that there are allot of people out there that hate Americans and just laugh at us. A few of these people told me, when they were asked if they were American, they had a bad feeling, so in response they said they were Canadian, Seems they have a better image. Like I said, its my opinion.  I see bits and pieces and try to use a little logic and I come up with a theory, because people don,t hate you for no reason. No Conspiracy Theory, unless you think is it Politically Incorrect.

I asked to questions.  You bothered to answer neither.

I'll give you my personal view.

The Islamic terrorists are not so much angry at what the American government does as at what they believe the American people to be.  Their writers have clearly identified that Israel is the number one anti-Islamic nation and that the United States of America is number two.  It's unlikely the government's actions as the U.S. government consistently gives large sums of money to under developed Islamic populations.

Perhaps you believe a majority of Americans are more in line with the Islamic powers than with the state of Israel.  I personally believe the majority of the population is more in sympathy with Israel than is our government, certainly much more than the current Islamic sympathizing Commander in Chief.

The suicidal murderers of 2001 were not so much incensed by the actions of the American government, they actually were possessed by a hatred for what the American people are.

The North Koreans?  They despise us also.  It's been sixty years, but they still haven't gotten over how we kicked their asses and that they are generally living on the edge of extinction while America live in opulence.  Life is complicated.

As a young man I spent a little time beyond the borders of the U.S.A.  There were people then (during the Vietnam experience) that seemed offended when someone assumed they were American.  I wore the badge with pride.  Jealous folks who think themselves better than I have never much impressed me.  The United States of America was in fact the force that some seventy years ago made the world what it was to build on what much of the free world has become today.  We've certainly made other contributions, but that is one that stands out very largely.

Actually, no, my friend, I'm not much interested in pissing contests.  I was moderately bothered by your seemed insinuation that the U.S. government had done something without the approval of the American people which had motivated the suicide murderers to blame the American people.  I just wanted a clarification.

The wonderful thing (for me, not so much for others) about where I'm at today is that I really don't care that much whether people like me or not.

I can accept that you and I simply see the world differently.  If you want to believe all the propaganda, that is your choice, but I'll pass I haven't been brain washed and at this point my opinion stands.

President Obama said Friday he thinks Sony "made a mistake" in choosing not to release "The Interview" in the wake of the devastating hacking attack which he blamed on North Korea, while vowing that the U.S. "will respond."
While saying he sympathizes with their situation and the concerns they faced, he said: "We cannot have a society in which some dictator some place can start imposing censorship here in the United States."

Based on what I recall from history lessons as I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye yet, we did indeed kick North Korea's ass quite handily, but were pushed back to a truce once the Red Chinese started throwing endless human wave attacks at us. The North Koreans however we trounced.

That would be precisely correct.

What is an interesting twist is that Douglas MacArthur proposed we knock out the bridges to make it more difficult for the Chinese to enter the conflict as they had not yet done so when we had pushed the North Koreans to their northern border.  The President denied MacArthur's request as Mr. Truman wanted to be careful not to offend our Chinese friends.  As R J how that worked out for them.

Even with horrendous losses on the Chinese side and the involvement of millions of ground troops, the best the Chinese could do was fight us to a draw.

As to the original topic, I'm not entirely certain that Sony isn't simply playing the publicity to make the most possible money on a really bad movie.

The big O was on the news program, maybe it was Meet the Depress. I kind of listen as I am doing things, something kind of caught my attention for a second, don't if it was what he said or even how he said something. Well it triggered something in my brain and made me think, could this be a strategy of testing the waters for something in the future. Not so much of N Korea reaction, but measuring the public reaction. Just a thought! Like a prelude for, or excuse for an aggressive action.

You know what I find highly ironic / laughable ? Sony (the movie company) is going to have to approach the IT community (whom they have damn near declared war on) to "save the corporate jewels" . I just wonder how many other companies are as vulnerable as Sony...
