I recently ordered an item on eBay. Yesterday I received an email from eBay saying the item had been shipped.
Today I received an email from paypal saying the payment had been denied in order to protect me. It then proceeded to ask me to link a bank account number to paypal. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what is it about?

Find a different link to Paypal and forward the message to them asking for verification.

Don't do a REPLY to it, do a forward to a different PayPal address.

One of my bank accounts has always been attached to my PayPal account.

Although, I did set it up that way with the account as the "primary funding source."  Perhaps PayPal requires that now and I just did it coincidentally when I setup the account.  I've had PayPal setup that way since...  2000-ish.  Never had a problem.

Although that could easily be a Phishing email.  So better safe than sorry.  I'd rather wait an extra few days for an item than give some dude in China my bank account info.

EBay and PayPal have an email address that you can forward a suspicious email to them for verification.  They'll let you know if its spam, fishing or whatever.

I forget the email address for each but they're easily found on their sites.

There's such a thing as a "paypal sending limit", google it...

When you first open a PayPal account, there is a limit on the amount of money you can send-usually $2,000 USD. Once you reach your limit, you'll need to add a bank account and become Verified in order to continue making transactions. You can view your sending limit here.

I quit using paypal after I hit my limit.

It will be a cold day in HECK before I give them access to my bank account.

Amazon is perfectly happy to sell me stuff as long as I pay the bill.

When I set up my paypal you could spend up to 10k before you had to link it to a bank account for verification (I set mine up to a CC) when that limit was reached they kept telling me I had to link it to a bank account before I could use it again so I sent them an email asking if they had ever had a problem getting payment from my CC? If not there was no reason they needed anything other than that and I wasn't cofortable giving them my bank account info and if we couldn't continue to do business VIA CC I didn't need a PP account guess what that was about 3 years ago and I still use PP all the time. They wanted the $$$$ I guess coolsmiley 2funny 2funny

I set mine up back in the 10K days too. I quit using it after they told me I had to link, I was
afraid to make a purchase they wouldn't honor, and then end up with blots on my ebay feedback.

Someone here ought to sell something cheap on ebay and we'll see if I can make
a purchase that goes through  Wink

You need to link PayPal to your bank account, not only to be able to pay for things from that account, but to be able to withdrawal your funds from PayPal and send them to your bank account.

I have a cc linked on PayPal that I'll pay for stuff with.  I never pay for stuff straight from the bank account.  When I sell something, the funds go to my PayPal account and build up there....then later I'll transfer those funds from PayPal to my bank.

Been buying and selling stuff for years and have never had anything go wrong.
