I just go to Ruby Tuesdays. They take a piece of steak, grind it up right there and make a burger. Medium Rare, Swiss Cheese and Mushrooms or BBQ and Sharp Cheddar and a Boston Lager... Now that's a Burger

Keep in mind just because someone makes small square burgers, it may not taste the same. Looking at that grill, correct me if I an wrong I see grease on it. White Castles have not grease in them, they have no fat of any type in them, they are lean pure meat. In fact when they cook them, they put a little onion juice on the grill to keep them moist because there is no grease.
Lean also does not mean tastes good in fact usually just the opposite with beef fish deer elk... Have you ever had a cookie, cake, tortilla, french fry or chili made with lard (pure fat)? You probably have you just might not know. Did you miss where I said "small dive"? I'm not a health nut when it comes to food, I like it to taste good and Cozy burgers go down real good! Edit: Hmmm from the White CAstle web site, a slider has 140 calories and 60 are from the fat. 7 grams of protein and 6 grams of fat. No wonder they taste good to you! http://static-whitecastle-com.s3.amazonaws.com/NutritionInfoNov2014.pdfSorry Doc about the facts!! I was just being dramatic. Not exactly the point I was trying to make. I guess every thing has some form of fat, just like most everything has sugar in it. My point was they don't cook them in 10w 30 fat like solution. I haven't eaten meat for several years, I just broke my rule again and went up to Castle's and bought a case of 30 to go. I put 24 of them in my vacuum container and freeze them for up the road. Interesting while waiting for my case there was a pickup in front of me with Oregon plates and he got 3 big sacks of something.

5 Guys. Lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and FRESH JALAPENOs And coke and fries with lots of pepper on them. I was thinking about this all day on the hamburger cookout day at InZane this year. Even though Scott was over there cooking hamburgers when I got back to ground zero, I still rode off into the Asheville traffic to 5 Guys for a fix... -Mike

The regular size Baconater is great, but the pretzel bun only comes in one size and it's too small. There's a new place called Smash Burger that recently opened up. It's more pricey than the other burger joints. Tried them twice. No biggie. Cheryl and I agreed that the burgers were a bit too salty. Won't go back.

Closest I've had were Krystal burgers in Memphis TN. They'd put a coupon in the Commercial Appeal for 10 burgers for a dollar. (Limit one per customer.)
I lived in Hughes Arkansas at that time (AKA Might as well be Tennessee Arkansas) We'd head to Memphis for a Saturday and blow $10 or $15 dollars for the day's entertainment. We'd snag 3 coupons from the Commercial Appeal and head for Memphis. Mrs. Sharon would drop me and the daughter off in the parking lot where we'd go in and each get our 10 burgers. Mrs. Sharon would pick us up after swinging through the drive in to get her 10 burgers. We'd already have an ice chest full of soft drinks and a couple of bags of chips. Then we'd head for the parking lot of the dollar theater and picnic in the car before going to the movie.
After blowing 6 bucks on dinner and a movie we might head to the public golf course with our garage sale clubs. The daughter and I were the only two who played, but mom and the baby boy would tag along and watch. We'd spend 2 bucks apiece on brown fees. (Considering the state of those courses, it doesn't seem right to call them green fees.) This was right outside the Memphis Zoo. At 4:00pm you could get in free until they closed at 6:00pm.
I hated the job I was in at that time and took a HUGE pay cut to get out of it. Literally salary cut more then half. But as much as I despised the job, I loved the family times we had while in the area. It was actually a good paying job, and we did have the money to spend when we needed to or really wanted to. But growing up poor and being poor through the first few years of our marriage left us proud of being able to do a lot with a little.
So I guess the answer to the OP is no.

Its not about the burgers, as much as it triggers and brings back those solid memories and the good place in our memories we occasionally visit.

We don't have any White Castles in the Ft Wayne area but there are quite a few near indy. 2 hours south of us. Every time Twila and I come back from TN or anywhere south we HAVE to stop and get a case of Burgers. Most for her son Anthony. Twila told me she has had Krystals. She says White Castles are better.

I was surprised to read all the complimentary remarks regarding White Castle. Before they took them out of this area many years ago the common assessment was they were junk burgers. My friends told me you needed to be drunk to enjoy them. I was therefore never tempted to try one. I guess now I may need to re-assess.
Now, Five Guys. Indeed I am on board with Mike on that one. I'm pretty sure they're not health food, but they are for certain delicious food!

Carl-got turned on to W C at an early age. I was 9 or 10 the first time I spent a day with my Dad while he drove his semi. The first time I was with him we stopped at a White Castle. So here it is 60 years later and I'm still hooked. And as far as the Krystals go-entirely too salty for my taste. A LOT of the old time truck stops-now long gone I'm sorry to say-made cursed good hamburgers. The local takes on a burger were quite interesting. And for my own amusement I make a durned good burger my own self! RIDE SAFE.

Sliders!! Used to go to either White Castle or Skyline Chili after nights of drinking while in college. Tried to eat some sliders while sober one time a few years ago. Almost made me sick. Skyline, on the other hand, I can eat while sober.

And when/if you do try 'em, you sure wonder what the hype was all about. Make it a double so you can actually taste it. Otherwise its a 16th" thick 2"x2" perforated patty on the flattop with wet onion pieces so the meat steams instead of fries. The bun is 10 times thicker that the patty and is as light as a feather so the whole think seems to just evaporate in your mouth when you take a bite. Nicknamed sliders cause they can slide right down your throat. And yes, great when you're drunk because you don't care what you're eating at that point and they're relatively cheap.

Their hometown is Columbus Ohio. They are all over this part of the midwest. I grew up on those burgers.
Common names: Gut Bombs, Skillet Scabes, and Sliders. Once upon a time they were 7 cents each. Perfect snack after delivering newspapers in the '60's.

There's a White Castle just a few blocks from where I work. I avoid it like a plague. I've had their "Sliders" before and the end result was not pleasurable for me or for those around me. I'll leave it at that.

I have been eating Castle's for about 62yrs, only one time I had an issue with them. Was partying one night at the local watering hole after wards I got a bag full. The next day, "holy mackerel", nearly made myself sick, almost lost on myself. Probability because the trash I was drinking the night before, drinks made to taste like something else. Bottom line was, bad chemistry in the gut, after that never had a problem again, not even a toot.

We always called them Maggot Burgers because of the onion bits. They are steamed so the bun is moist. Grew up in the Burbs of Detroit. Moved to Northern Minnesota in the early 70's. Now I have to drive to Hinkley mn. halfway to Minneapolis to get them...

cookiedough, there is one in kenosha. we stop in there after the bristol renn faire every year. LOVE the sliders!!! My dad introduced them to me on our drives between IL and OH a couple times a year. They do make good drunk food, but so does any burger and fry. Sliders are one of those things. You either LOVE them or hate em.

Never had one. I'm not from there. I grew up on In-n-Out. Worked there for 2 weeks in the 70's and got fired. Lunch came woth the shift, just not a 10 stack with cheese. 10X10, as it were. 5 Guys, oooohhhhhyyeeeaaaaa. Just dont order the large fries if theres less that 4 in your party. Heart attack grille,,,,,,,,,,Dr. Jon has it all over everyone. He's a great guy and a nutritionist by training. He saw a need and filled it. Really well. His fries are worth a chapter in the book all by themselves. If in Vegas, worth a trip.

Next time you ride I-70 across Kansas (at Salina) and need some garlic gas: This is the entire grill and most of the store. No better small dive for burgers in Kansas. Some old bikers and myself hooked up at Topeka to ride the 100 miles to Salina for a taste last summer, and I ended up missing it cause my battery decided to short out, they told me how good they were the next time we got together. I had to call my son to hitch up the bike trailer and rescue me. I ate a lot of them when I was stationed in Jacksonville Florida in my sailor days. Hoser

The thing about Castle's burgers, they have their own taste, I have seen several places that made burgers that looked like Castle's, but didn't taste like it. Like KFC has their own flavor, people have tried to match, but no cigar. Castle's have their own flavor, they won't change your life, you may like or dislike, but they have their own personality.
