I have eaten these burgers all my life!! Several years ago I quit eating meat, but I had a moment of weakness and bought 6, and man were they good. So I was thinking, how far west can you get them, and how far east can you get them and of course. How far south can you get them?

Never had one ever, don't think there are any of White Castle's around southern WI, but haven't sought them out.

For the price of a lb. of hamburger nowadays hovering around, if lucky,  3.00 per lb.,  might as well go out to eat?

Years ago in the Detroit Metro area, for a few years they were voted the healthiest hamburgers. No fat, no additives, lean meat, when they get cooked there is no grease, they are cooked in a touch of onion juice to keep moist. Originated in Wichita Kansas, some people call them gut burgers, nothing wrong with the burgers. I also had them frozen, they are OK, but nothing like a fresh one!! Far as belly bombs, just knock off the onion bits, if that don't work, go see a doctor you got gut issues.

No local restaurants, but I get them in 6-packs in the frozen section once in a while for one minute mini burgers.  Of course there's no fat, hell each burger is 2.5 grams of meat (not much different than brushing a bit of beef gravy between two mini buns). Grin

I get the cheeseburgers and add a slice of cheddar before nuking.  (I think the cheese that comes in them is really yellow plastic)

Two with a bowl of soup is a decent lunch.

I remember one in downtown Milwaukee in my youth, but the big burger chain back then was George Web.  They had 19 cent burgers.  There are still White Castles in the Minneapolis area.  My son in law is a big fan of them.  I have yet to partake.

I grew up in Chicago and was weaned on 'em!

All through high school it was "let's meet at the White Castle and 79th and Essex."

Live in Florida now (47 yrs) but occasionally  pick em up at the store, but nothing like hot off the grill eaten 3-4 at a time!

Thinking about one of the replies. Mickey-D brags about how many burgers they sold, how many do you think White Castle sold.  I would guess that the Castle would blow their socks off.

Yes, I have eaten White Castle hamburgers. The restaurant burgers are of course a whole different experience than the frozen. They were late night snacks on the way home when I was a teen. We called them "gut-bombs"

Late fifties, early sixties the price for Krystal's was fifteen cents. When McDonalds and their competition came to town, they were fifteen cents also so Krystal dropped their price to twelve cents since they were smaller so they could compete. Stayed that way until the competition raised their prices.  cooldude

Half a dozen White Castle burgers and most folks I know could provide gas for a week to a Valkyrie.

I like the ones fresh out of the cooker over the Frozen ones.

When we came back and visited the in-laws, we always had to go to the White Castle.

I suppose it was because the wife's sister was the Manager at one in St Louis.

We'd leave for California and always stop a her sis's store and get 3 dozen of those little gut busters.

Made good eatin for snacks in the Motel at night.     Went down to the Breakfast room one night in New Mexico and cooked up about a dozen of them.     I thought we were going to get mobbed before we got out of that room.      LOL.

I remember a commercial from back in the '70's for Krystals where a girl was holding a little burger proclaiming that she ate 12 Krystals once.

We don't have White Castle in the south, but we have Krystals.  I've never had a White Castle, but I've always heard that White Castle and Krystals are exactly the same.

Have heard them called sliders, but don't know of any other name for them.

I myself have  never had a Krystals hamburger so it would be difficult for me to make a comparison.  Here in Detroit and the Metro surrounding area there have been many establishments that created their version of burgers to compete with White Castle. Places like Bray's, Marcus, White Ways, Sliders, Big Boy, Top Hat and so on. And without a doubt they make good hamburger, but White Castles had a unique taste to their burgers, its not a meal it is an experience. Its hard to just eat one and walk away. Its hard to say who has the best burger, I guess it depends on the person eating them.  For you Turkey, White Castle Gourmet's out there, here is a recipe for you, live on the wild-side.

Next time you ride I-70 across Kansas (at Salina) and need some garlic gas:

This is the entire grill and most of the store.

No better small dive for burgers in Kansas.

Keep in mind just because someone makes small square burgers, it may not taste the same. Looking at that grill, correct me if I an wrong I see grease on it. White Castles have not grease in them, they have no fat of any type in them, they are lean pure meat. In fact when they cook them, they put a little onion juice on the grill to keep them moist because there is no grease.

Before I left Wyoming in the 2001, there was a White Castle in Casper Wy.  Not sure if it is still there.   Never stopped in.

Haven't seen any in my travels in OR, NV, AZ, CA or WA.  But then haven't seen all of the towns and Cities in these states.

Dad and I used to polish off a couple dozen after little leagues games!  First one I can remember was on Queens Blvd. in Elmhurst, in NYC.  Circa 1976ish.

Haven't been in a few years, but last few times I order double burgers because the singles was like eating air.  At least the doubles were still under a buck back then.  They make deep fried chicken rings that aren't bad with a honey mustard sauce.

Lean also does not mean tastes good in fact usually just the opposite with beef fish deer elk... Have you ever had a cookie, cake, tortilla, french fry or chili made with lard (pure fat)? You probably have you just might not know.

Did you miss where I said "small dive"? I'm not a health nut when it comes to food, I like it to taste good and Cozy burgers go down real good!

Edit: Hmmm from the White CAstle web site, a slider has 140 calories and 60 are from the fat. 7 grams of protein and 6 grams of fat. No wonder they taste good to you!
