I like when he first starts shooting and scares the crap out of the fellow contestant the last section where the "good guy" in front looses his head.

JUST fer yuks and giggles I was looking at the Desert Eagle .50 cal! Good used ones are approx. $1500.00 to North of $2500.00. The ammo-H P-looks to be a buck and a half a round and UPWARDS. I could see myself paying to send some .50 cal downrange just to say I have!  coolsmiley As far as the D E .50 cal being a carry gun-MAYBE I could get Arny to carry it for me!  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

As slow as he was drawing that thing, I'd have his trigger arm blown off. Guaranteed!  As for power, it's the definition of "one shot, one kill."

Thanks Jess. I wasn't actually aware of the 2 different calibers. So NOT a wasted day as I LEARNED something!  cooldude I'm guessing the .500 ain't cheap per round? I'm fairly certain with a slug that has a 5 as the first number that a center mass or a head shot punches some ones ticket to eternity. And I agree with John-takin him forever to get his weapon drawn. RIDE SAFE.

I love my S&W 500 Mag, but... Well... in my mind my guns are divided into "Practical" ones that may have a real use sometime and "Fun" guns that I've got just because they're fun, and this one is firmly in the "Fun" category.

And yeah, the .500 S&W Magnum and the .50 AE that the Desert Eagle shoots are VERY different beasts.

Here's a .500 S&W Magnum next to a .50 AE (With a 50 Beowulf in the middle just for yuks) for an idea of the size differential:

While the 50 AE is no slouch, the 500 S&W Magnum is around the same energy level as a 30.06 rifle.

Just for fun (And to save money) I hand load 700 grain lead bullets in mine. That's 1/10th of a pound being flung down range with every shot. When you pull the trigger on that load, you know you've pulled the trigger on something substantial!

A friend and I took a couple of young ladies to the local range.

We started off with 22, then on to 380, 38, 38 special, 9mm, 357 magum, 45, Judge and finally the S&W 500.

Part way through this a young couple came to the lane next to us. She was next to me when I shot the first 50 down range. I've never before seen an Asian woman leave her skin and then return to it whilst levitating a foot off the ground.

She may have also had a bladder incident because they left the lane.  Shocked

My buddy has a 50 cal desert eagle. Fun gun, but entirely too big to carry. He is 6' tall and weighs about 160. I use to know a guy that carried 2 in shoulder holsters. But he was pushing 400 pounds and he knew how to use them. He could pop a water baloon every time at 50 yards with his.

/Serious Mode On
While we're talking about hand cannons, some people think it's fun to put a large gun into the hands of a novice to shock or scare them. It's not, it's highly irresponsible and dangerous, please don't do it, and discourage others from doing it.

/Serious Mode Off

And yeah, the 500 is very serious. Here's a pic I took (And posted on this very forum evidently, I google image searched for comparison pics and found my own pic, on this forum, that was a surprise!). This is a S&W 500 Magnum next to a 5.56 (What the AR15/M16/M4 shoot)

More comparisons:

On the left is a 220 grain .44 caliber bullet (I.E. 44 Magnum). On the right is a 700 grain bullet for the S&W 500. 700 grains is 1/10th of a pound of lead... That thing slings some SERIOUS metal down range! (The 700 grain loads are custom cast by a guy in Alaska, most "normal" S&W 500 loads are "only" in the 350-550 grain range)

This is a empty S&W 500 brass with a 5.56 brass (What the AR15/M16/M4 uses) sitting inside of it:
Remember, this is a HANDGUN round with a RIFLE round sitting inside of it!

Go back to the first pic/vid and look at all the holes in the ceiling.  About every range I've been to with a ceiling has them.  I always wonder are people that poor of marksmen, or do they just enjoy shooting the ceiling?

I like all hand cannons, and esp revolver hand cannons, but personally the .44 is as large as I will ever own or buy ammo for.  Same with rifles in 30.06/7.62.  I'd enjoy a .460/.500 Smith or .338 Lapua, but with no real utility beyond entertainment (or novelty)(at least for me), I cannot justify the expense.

Here is my novelty .44 mag. (empty it is 2 ozs heavier than an empty J frame airweight)

And a 12 Gauge punkin' ball from an 18" bbl is no slouch either. (and pretty affordable)

And while I have never seen him shoot, I'm betting Chris (Jeff), can operate his .500 much better than the fellow in the video (who cannot get it out of his holster, or decide if he wants to use single or double action).

We just got back from the hunting property as a matter of fact.  I shot a box through the .500 magnum.  I can say judging by the size of that shooter and the fact he had both feet on the firing line and standing upright he was shooting some light loads.  Low recoil 200 grain (something like that)  We were shooting 350 and 375 grain full power loads and I tried that same stance just for grins and the recoil wanted to take me off my feet way more than that guy was experiencing.  One foot back a half a step and all was well though  cooldude

I was thinking the same thing, he wasn't standing right for shooting a high impact firearm. It's been a while, so was that the standard Weaver Stance?

Also a very slow, unsmooth, and catching draw. Something is very wrong with his rig. I actually used a hip quick draw holster (1911-A1), and wore it concealed in my back. Would bind 75% of the time I practiced drawing and dry firing in the mirror. Went out to a Practical Match, and never once had a bind.

Also shot beside a guy who pulled out a .44, and the blast/shock was over powering, Ii stepped back from the shooting line, and waited for him to finish his shooting. It was almost like a slap in the face.

I've got a Blackhawk C C  holster that has a catch that grabs/holds the front of the trigger guard on my .40 Smith. When you release the catch and draw your finger goes naturally to the trigger guard or trigger. And it has to be released-guard lock-to draw weapon but after some practice seems to work rather nicely. Going with the belt hold on the holster versus the paddle. The paddle wants to go with the weapon. NOT a good plan.  Carrying is like better to have it and NOT need it than to NEED it and NOT have it.  cooldude Some body has it on their avatar-better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6!  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

My tactical thigh holster draws really nice, but I don't think I need to quick draw on any HOGS.

Not to much on guns but do have one, a.380 automatic. Back in the mid 70s while working in a big machine shop I made some replica brass cannons of the kind on board Old Ironsides. Out of five I made two to fire. One was a small .500 steel ball but the bigger one fires a 1" ball bearing close to one mile, one mean bugger. I haven't fired either one in 20 years but sure had some fun with them. The bigger one I could actually see the ball going downrange and watched it once go over a hill about 1/2 mile away.
