Dremaker do you eat banana's? What do yo know about them?
Are they "natural" to you?
It's kinda obvious from your statements you don't know what GMO is at all.
Answer to your question is yes I do eat bananas, I eat green ones, I buy them green, cut them up and freeze them. I make smoothies! My understanding is our bodies can't process green bananas, only a small % and gets rid of the rest. Based on the state you live in, not sure where, of its history of passed activities and testing I wouldn't be so concerned with GMO. Look!!! my objective of the thread is awareness, fact finding and better understanding of what we eat. "Its not a competition" its not about who is smarter, and its not about slamming others, If you want to slam someone, I have thick skin. OK! I am not intelligent, in fact I am not even smart, but I do pay attention to details and have a fair memory. I see things that are happening in front of me and question it, not smart but still learning. Whole bunch of stuff out there I don't understand and allot of the thing people do. The objective is about brain storming an issue. By the way, someone said something to the effect information gathered on TV and the Internet must be true, sarcasm. You not serenely believe that USDA, FDA, EPA, CDC is absolutely truthful and uncorrupted??? Any way lets put our heads together!!!!

Look!! I am not trying to play king of the hill here, I am trying to learn something from you guys. I learned along time ago, if I want to know the best way to sweep a floor, then ask the sweeper, not the boss. Point is, we have a large group and I am sure there is real experience on any subject. My rule of thumb is, I listen to Doctors that appear to be experts on the subjects and not trying to sell snake oils, but really concerned peoples health. Upon listening to their discussions, I found, issues that they agree on is generally to be true. There are people out there that really care, the trick is to figure out who they are. Far as the consumer is concerned, its not about dieting, its about eating healthy. I am not a tree huger, save the whale or Green Peace type of any sort, just want to try and do the right things and stay healthy. Without our health we got nothing!! Ya gotta like this board and the stuff brought up here.
I've spent the past few days reading quite a bit on this GMO thing. Like anything on the internet you can find whatever you what on either side of an issue. I prefer looking at the side that I tend not to believe. What I've found recently is different than what we have been told, or, at least, what I have previously read or heard.
This is an interesting subject that makes you go hmmmm.
As with most things, I more I learn, the more confused I become and the more questions I have.

I agree with everything MP says. When I was a kid g-pa would spray fields twice or even 3x a yr. Now we do it once. Food would be 3x the price it is now without it being modified someway.
Maybe I'm judging here, but most who are against monsanto, gmo, etc, are city folk who never lived on a farm. Its this way at work.

Strange. US exports lots of corn to Europe. Most US corn is GMO. Also, just because Europe banned it, does not mean it is bad. Lots of phony science out there. Lots of scare tactics. If we listen to all the naysayers, we would NOT use GMO, we would NOT use any pesticide, we would NOT use any commercial fertilizer, we would NOT use any oil to fuel our tractors. And, as a result, millions upon millions of people in the world would starve to death within a year. But, then people such as yourself would be happy, because we MIGHT save a few that would be harmed by some of the above. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. And, for your info, I do NOT grow any GMO's, so I have no ax to grind. MP

The way I am seeing this, is there are three schools of thought here. First there are the City People,(City Slickers) then we have the Suburbans (the Boys from the Burbs) then you have the Farm Boys. I have Uncles that are farmers in Mich. and Oklahoma, and I have worked with Farm Boys. Now one thing can say from my experience, is true Farm Boys are the most hard working, honorable, dependable and the most Loyal people I have ever met. But it doesn't mean, you couldn't be mislead by technology. Maybe Europe is get US corn, but what is their there consumption, may they band for human consumption. Let see, buy cheap corn from US and make fuel out of it, and corn grown here in Europe can be use as food. You are right people are like sheep, there is allot of information out there, the trick is figuring out what is true and what is not. Someone suggested sarcastically, that information that may be gotten on the internet may be just trash and untrue. You mind as well assume that libraries and educational institutions fall in the same category. It just random info. Are people in the US starving??? Man you should go to a mall and sit down, and look around, people sure don't look like they lack food.
The way I look at it, is the person a responsible farmer, or are they just a Profiteer. Sometimes people think, if you can't see it, it can't hurt you, Right!! But you surely can't see wind, but we do understand what it can do. Nature provides balance to all living beings, it is like links in a chain, it is a sequence, and when you disturb that sequence, there are repercussions, now an extreme example of the break in the sequence happened 65 million years ago. What makes you think as humans, we could ever improve on anything that nature could ever give us. That is an arrogant thought! Eat what ever you want, I chose to eat as clean as possible.

Most of what you die from is genetic. My dad is 94 , healthy as can be and eats whatever he wants including GMO corn as he raises it. We are all going to die from something. You can either avoid everything and believe whatever you read and maybe live long and miserable or you can live on the edge, enjoy everything and die happy. I prefer to die happy and no I am not a farmer and have no axe to grind. I am the son of one and love life and everything it has to offer. If I died tomorrow I am happy I have lived it to the fullest and know where I am going. One of the happiest is that I owned a valk and still do.

RELAX!!! Don't pop a blood vessel, No one is forcing anything, on anyone. It is your choice what you put in your mouth. This God and Country gives you that right! This is nothing more than sharing info. What you choose what to do with it is up to you. I have reservation on your statement of "Most of what you die from is genetic". I am 67yrs. meany of my family were gone by this age, my Father had Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes and passed, my Mother had Parkinson disease and Myasthenia gravis and congestive heart failure and passed, my sister had stents, heart ailments and diabetes still here, and my brother has heart issues, stents and diabetes and still here. So far my vitals are normal, check them every day, on good weather I do 20-30 miles a day on my bicycle, just got checked got "A" rating, no heart issues, no diabetes, was checked for arterial blockage of plaque, totally clear, little over weight, memory very good, I stand straight, move normal and 99.3% of the time my joints are no issue, I try and play piano for hand exercise, haven't seen a Doctor roughly in 15yrs, other than a sniffle, I don't get sick, may be a couple a stitches from time to time. May be I was adopted, may be I was lucky, and may be it was because I try and live and eat healthy, I don't know at this point. Also I keep trying to tell people this is not a competition!!!

There are people like you who eat right, dont put anything but organic and all natural foods in their bodies and still die young. A guy I went to school with did all of this from the time he was an infant. Exercised every day and was in great shape. Had a wife and baby. On one of his morning runs he fell over dead at the age of 28. Had a massive heart attack for no good reason. Sono I dont believe this bull crap that all this other food is bad for you. My great grandma lived to be 98 and ate what she wanted when she wanted. A pound of bacon a day was her diet.

There are all kinds of things either mandated, or prohibited, that take away our freedom of choice. Thousands upon thousands of pages of new laws, rules, and regulations governing what we do, how we do it, and what we can get, are put into effect every year. California now has a law, in effect, that mandates what question a guy has to ask a girl, and get the right response, before having sex. If he does NOT ask the question right, he can be charged with rape! Almost have to carry around a contract to have her sign, to prove it. MP

I doubt very much I eat totally organic, even if it says natural it could be trash. Belladonna, peyote mescalin strict-nine is all organic and natural, doesn't mean it is good for you. What I do is read the labels of ingredients, I try not to put chemicals in my body. Certain buzz words on the ingredients then I put it down. I could go on and on. Our health is like a math equation, its made up of variables which eventually you get your answer, whether you like it or not you must live with it. We spend most of our lives trashing our bodies, the thing is how much will it tolerate? far as your buddy you don't know all the variables of his life, apparently you missed one, because he is gone, things aren't always what they appear to be. Now far as Grandma, I would think that when they ate bacon, it was bacon, or lard, their crap food was clean, with little to no chemical in their food. Also you can't take exception of the fact, and use them as an example for the masses. Example: I know a few women, I would not mess with, they can kick my ass, but the majority of women cannot. Got to look at things as a whole, go to the mall and look around. When I went to school it was rear to see over weight kids, now it seem rear to see slim, trim kids.

I dont know all the variables of his life? What does that have to do with anything? He was 28 and was doing everything the experts said should be done. His wife said Iit was like a religion to him. Just had a clean check up at the doctor 2 days before he died. No family history of anything heart related.
You just want to believe your doing the right thing. You may be, I dont know. But wht come preach all this to middle aged fat white guys that like to ride their bikes to places for lunch. Maybe you should take this to a health forum and get more positive reactions from others like you. I think thats what you're really searching for.

I am just a middle aged white fat guy like everybody else, I am just trying to figure things out. If you don't ask questions, then you will never have the answer. I am not looking for people to agree with me, I am enjoying he fact that people are being honest with me, and telling me like it is. I don't live in a fantasy, I know I will die one day, I just don't want to go through slow death, like many do.

I have came to realize I'm either gonna die really quick or a slow painful death. Either way I dont worry about it. Your gonna die so you might as well really enjoy yourself until you do.

Don't get the wrong impression, I don't eat like a rabbit, and I don't generally do without. And I do my best to enjoy my life, the thing is, I want to live, not just exist. So when it comes to the point that the Big Guy in the Sky, pulls the plug on me, I pray it is quick, if not quick, I am not going down without a fight. But I am not going to promote the painful end.

Now far as Grandma, I would think that when they ate bacon, it was bacon, or lard, their crap food was clean, with little to no chemical in their food. Also you can't take exception of the fact, and use them as an example for the masses.
The problem is, that is EXACTLY what most, I said most, not all, of the people who attack a lot of things do. They find a couple examples of someone who appears to be hurt by a food, a product, whatever, and extrapolate that out to everyone. Someones kid has a reaction to vaccine, so the call goes out to ban all vaccines. Even though science says there will be a few reactions. Someones daughter gets killed in a MC accident, and TX passes a law REQUIRING handholds for passengers. Even though we all know they will do ZERO good. Our food supply is the cleanest and healthiest it has been in our history. Do some people eat too much and get fat? Yeah. Not the foods fault. Are there some people who have a reaction to some things? Yeah. But not many. But, for the vast majority of people, the food supply is great! As a farmer, I like the bumper sticker that goes: NEVER BAD MOUTH A FARMER WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL. MP

Are people in the US starving??? Man you should go to a mall and sit down, and look around, people sure don't look like they lack food.
Do you know why? Genetic engineering. Were able to produce more yeild and able to grow crops where they would not hv survived 100 yrs ago.

Theres a guy that owns a few gyms in my area. Late 40's, all bulked up. Lived healthy and worked out. 2 yrs ago had a massive MI and arrested and was on a vent for 2 weeks. Hes still alive, luckily.

I would rather have a bumper sticker say:
IF IT IS NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT
