The lower Hudson Valley

around 115pm G-Man cruised up my street and we commenced immediately to ride north
along the Hudson River, really nice view of the river the whole way and of the west side hills and Palisades

Today there were no accidents on the Goat Trail so we safely reached the Bear Mountain Bridge and I led the way up Bear Mountain, past the Perkins Drive and down west to the 2nd circle for Seven Lakes Drive

Lots of motorcycles out many were 2 up enjoying a clear dry day that brought temps into the low 50's

Since the Valk got her wind yesterday I took the police bike today

The streams were running pretty full from the snow melt and the rain of earlier in the week

In fact that is probably why my favorite road was closed.  106    tickedoff

So we pulled into the scenic campground

and enjoyed the beauty of the alpine lake (Sebago)

for a spell, then reversed course past Lake Tiorati
and down the trail head at the circle for the Palisades and route 6 and back to the Bear Mtn Bridge via a few miles of the Palisades Parkway which wind around the north face of the mountain.   The temp is always a whole bunch cooler on that stretch of road and the downhill is lots of fun when there are no potholes. and there were no potholes yet.

Across the bridge and a left onto 9D which carried us past historic Garrison (directly across from West Point) and into Cold Spring where we made a right onto 301 for a spell then right on 9 south to eat at the texas bbq place.

 Thanks Gary for lunch

Nice conversation with my favorite riding partner ensued over BBQ and fixins and looky at the clock the sun will be going down soon so zoom zoom zoom south on 9 to the 9A split which is about the only place I will intentionally drag pegs in any gear and up the long curvy grade into Ossining where I split off for home and G-Man still had about 10 miles or so to go

now the sun is down and great red sky lighting the clouds from below

A terrific ride to end a great year.

Lets hope for many more great rides in years to come

This is what I always think of when you post about those places...

Bear Mountain Picnic:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Skae1GnJDiA

Cold Spring Harbor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AryptLpHDDs

Billy Joel was a nobody when he recorded Cold Spring Harbor. Some jack-leg
producer got a hold of it and speeded it way up so it would "sound better". I found
the album in a cut-out bin in Myrtle Beach around 1976 or so (well, my buddy Joel
found it, but I had $5, what a jerk I was). Now that Billy Joel isn't a nobody,
the album has been re-release and slowed back down. I hate it slow  Wink

Fort Walton Beach, Florida I'm a simple man, I like pretty, dark haired woman and breakfast food.

Right, Cold Spring Harbor is a small section in the town of Huntington, in Lawng Island.  I was a locksmith out that way for a couple years.  Some of my favorite homes (that I could never afford) are in the Harbor.  Very upper-class.  Houses are 50 yards from the road with impeccable lawns.  Quiet.  Very Private as well.  Billy Joel grew up that way.  His motorcycle shop is not that far from there as well.

Cold Spring, the town we like to ride through is a junction of a few nice roads, it's on the water as well, quaint little town, corner gas station that can get full of bikes, and usually no LEOs.

The Hudson Valley is beautiful all  seasons.

Thanks for calling Evan!  It was real good to get out of the house and also to eat at a new (to me) BBQ joint.

Happy New Year to All!

I grew up a few miles from Cold Spring Harbor in Huntington. My church was St John's Episcopal behind the fish hatchery. It's the most photographed church in the country. Use to get clams on the half shell on the harbor and row out to catch flounder. Thanks for the memories guys.
