I just found a winchester website to find the year your winchester was made. I have a model 42 and a model 1912. both are standard grade nuttin' fancy nancy shotties. the 42 was made in '47, the 1912 was actually made in 1918 (almost 100!  Shocked)

add to that my Dad's old squirrel pistol a S&W K22 masterpiece that was made in 1957 I have some really old guns. Wink

those three guns combined age 230!

and then I lost them in the tragic boating accident  Cry

I have( I mean had) a few old winchesters along with some belgum brownings. But that damn boating accident took them all under.

About two years ago, I detail cleaned and priced out an old Winchester lever gun.  Cannot remember the model (not my cup of tea), but in .32-30 Winchester.   Easily worth $2200.  Nice historical piece.  And there are a boatload of hardcore Winchester collectors out there.

I have an 1888 Mauser.  It's safe to shoot 8mm in (at least 10 times), but its even safer hanging on the wall.  With a proper bayonet, it makes a mean spear. Grin

Got a 97 Winchester Trench gun, 12 gauge.
This was like the one used in Steve McQueens movie Bullit, which breaks down in 1/2, that the bad guy hid in his trenchcoat after blowing away a guy in a mob hit.
It also has an exposed hammer, which is also a safety when it is half cocked. I always liked this as it comes in handy when you have one in the chamber. All you have to do is pull back the trigger and you're ready to rock and roll.
Now with "Cowboy shooting" being so popular, I'm sure it's getting to be valuable.

In my case, it was Lake Superior.  No GPS or other nav aids.  Somewhere in US waters off MN, WI or the UP of MI.  It was such a traumatic experience that my memory of the details is a little sketchy.  Why, oh why, did I decide "Take your guns fishing day" was a good idea?  Cheesy

Just eyeballing it from the map, Canadian waters look like maybe 40% of the lake and several sources online indicate a total surface area of 31,700 sq. miles, so a ballpark figure of only 19,020 to go looking in.

Internet discussion boards pulling people of all different backgrounds together the way they do...I halfway expect someone to come along and show a picture of their one 230 year old gun that's been passed down in the family from Colonial times.

So sorry to hear about the boating accidents, to bad, what a shame to lose all those fine old guns.
I'm a big fan of old Winchester pump guns. I've got 5 M12s and 2 M42s that haven't sunk yet. [ one group is a matched skeet set]

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Just picked up a 30-30 for $300. Have one in .45 colt that a dealer offered me $1200 for and I happily declined.  coolsmiley Nice price jump since I only paid $200 in 1997.

I always look for the winchesters with the steel butt plate. But your talking some money.  Undecided

I once had a Model 12 before my boating accident. My Great grandfather was a missionary in Northern MN when one of the huge logging fires burned up the area. The Church out east that supported him ask if there was one thing they could get him and he told them with a shotgun he could feed his family. They did a fundraiser and sent him a Model 12. The church engraved it but not fancy, just with an engraving pen.
