Hey Brutewing, welcome to the best web site ever.

I don't have any experience with the Russell Day Long, but most people that have then seem to be very happy with them.

I've got a Ultimate Big Boy and it's a very excellent seat.  I've done several 350-400 mile day trips on it without any discomfort at all.  I use a sheep skin cover on long road trips and that helps also.

It's tough making a decision when both products are excellent, so good luck.

I'm 6'5" 300lbs and have a Russell Day ong, LOVE IT.  12 hour days are not a problem with this seat.

Brute,  Welcome to the zoo...  I run the Big Boy (6'2" 275 lbs), and have tried the King BB (not for me).  I believe Dez (from Ultimate) still offers a 'try it' time frame.  When I tried the King BB, I soon found out I didn't like it.  Boxed it up and sent it back to Ultimate within the time frame, and was refunded all but shipping.

With that in mind, maybe wait till closer to riding season here (I live in SE WI), and I'll let ya try my BB.  I think another WI member, Jim C, is using a King BB, so maybe you can try his too (we live 20 minutes apart).

Good luck in yer search, and PM me if interested in a seat swap come spring.

I have a ultimate seat and longest I have ridden it was 715 in one day and could have went alot farther.  I used to have a corbin which I thot was a butt buster.  I know nothing about the other brand, but as far as I am concerned the Ultimate rox.

Welcome to the asylum!  :2funny:  I'm no coniseur of seating, but my Ultimate Big boy has served me well. Longest day ride was about 550 miles, no problem.

Yes the offer is still there. If you are coming to Inzane this year, then check out there seat there, and take it for the recommended 100 mile ride before returning it. I'm going to do that with my GW, save on the shipping, and us the money for the trip instead.

thanks guys I am loving the site LOTS of helpful stuff on here I just stumbled on my new to me bike a week ago rented a uhaul drove to the u.p. and brought it home seemed like a pretty good deal to me its a 97 with a bat wing faring with a radio and hard touring bags color matched in 2 tone red and white the only slight negative was the mileage 79000 but the guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner and he had it for 50000 and bought it from the honda mechanic who bought it new I bought it for 2900.00 plus 30.00 for the uhaul and 2 tanks of gas so I feel it was a good deal I drove it the day after new years for 10 miles or so and all is perfect for a 18 year old bike imo  what do higher mile valks go for ?

I have the Ultimate King Big Boy. Very good seat for a big man.

I am 6'2" 385 Lbs. Have rode many 300 to 400 mile rides with no

problem. Gas stops get the blood back in there. With the stock

seat that was on mine when I bought it I would have to stop for

a break after 40 miles.

I know this is not responsive to your original question, but have you considered a Hartco/Diamond seat (I believe both are manufactured by the same company)?

These seats do not seem to get much love by Valkyrie riders, but do get favorable reviews by the Wing riders.  I find the seat to be very comfortable and a huge improvement over the OEM seat.  They seem to be constructed for and popular with larger riders.

I just looked at ebay and there are currently three (3) Hartco seats, one of which is a demo model with a starting bid of just under $200 (including shipping).  LINK.  I have no connection with Hartco, Diamond, ebay, or any specific ebay auction.

Forward seat is a Hartco; passenger seat is homemade.

I will add that the photos are several years old and the seat cover has developed serious cracks.  Not exactly sure of the material.

I have a Russell Day Long on my 82 GW, I love it......

I have a couple old seat pans I'd like to try different foam combinations on. I have an upholstery shop, will be trying some different looks........

I thought it was a deal even with the high mileage  :cooldude: also that seat interest me I don't think it looks as nice as the others but it's about function and MOOLA plays a role too thanks for the heads up

A harder wider seat is preferable for long distance riding.

Getting the pressure off the coccyx is paramount for

comfort, no pain and ability to straighten up after a long

expanse of riding.  My long distance riding seat

is a Diamond. It's no good for local on/off duty but

it's the greatest for those 12 hour blasts.

I have the Ultimate Big Boy. I'm 6', 225lbs. & I love it.

I use an Airhawk pad on longer trips, especially during the hot Arkansas summer months. It keeps you dry & distributes your weight more evenly.

There is a guy in Fayetteville AR who makes custom Valk seats. People are crazy about them. He designs the seat based on your personal dimensions & weight.

Also, there is a mod to the OEM seat that seems to be popular. I think you can find instructions through the Horseapple Ranch website although it may be thru one of his featured links. A professional upholsterer would do it, including the required pad, for probably < $200.00 or so. However unless you are all thumbs you could do it yourself.

Some people say the width of the front of the Ultimate seats is a problem although I think it is caused by sitting on it rather than sliding back a little bit and sitting in it.

You did steal that Valk.

Hope this is of some help.

Well guys thanks to this site I am already loving my valk It now has a Hartco custom big boy seat on it for me my wife is happy with the stocker for now as I have logger 8 miles on the stocker I knew it needed to go she has not ridden on the bike at all I got my ride in the day after new years 8 cold miles here in green bay wi (GO PACK GO) There is a local watering hole just down the road from me and there was a group of snowmobile riders mounting up as I went screaming by the bar not realizing there was a state patrol cruiser behind me I wound er up to 95 ish then slowed down to turn left into my drive way look in my mirror and just about sheet my self to see this cop on me he had his lights on as I was going way to fast still to stop as I was still leaning to turn into my driveway at a pretty good clip I heard the siren come on for 2-4 seconds then he continued on with the rest of the day as I parked my new to me valk I thought good omen or bad ;) anyway thanks for the heads up on the seat I put it on tonight the one from ebay that was suggested to me from a member on here sits awesome feels awesome and for under 200.00 shipped to my door I am really liking my old (new again) hobby THANKS GUYS

I also went with a Hartco setup, purchased it last winter and rode on it all last summer.

It is a very comfortable custom seat for a reasonable price.

Man those are some ugly seats, but if they are comfortable who cares. They just dont look very comfortable to me. Looks like you sit on them instead of in them. And I like my back rest on my ultimate.
