When a mosquito bites you and starts to suck away on your blood, it's also simultaneously Urinating on You!

That information should make your day.... cooldude....So when you smack one of those guys what else gets spread on your skin, hey, we're lucky they don't scream when you hit them.... Smiley

For the last couple years, because of all the viruses, I have really tried not to get bitten by those little bustards.  Summer where I live is no wind, hot and humid, and I wear long sleeves and pants and hats and DEET up (I hate that crap) for any outdoor activities.  And forget about working outdoors at dusk when they swarm up.  And I spray my (small) property/landscape with insecticide every couple weeks in back where I do all my work (with double doses).

I don't care about their pee, it is the blood thinner they inject to get your blood flowing that is the nasty stuff (maybe that is pee, I don't know).

And of course, the only biting mosquitoes are females.

Our house is on a 1/4 acre lot which is near woods w/ some swampy areas. all spring, summer and fall I keep a 1/2 acre bug zapper on a timer to come on at dusk and go off at dawn. I also use the little peel and hang scent things as an additional boost for the zapper.  I think it has helped quite a bit keeping the buggers to a minimum and from the looks of all the dead ones its is certainly doing its job.

Put up some bat boxes.

If my memory serves me right a bat can eat a crap load (technical term) of bugs every hour.

Of course the trick is to keep the bats from making your attic their preffered home.

I can ago out and watch the bats do the back and forth swoop, eating skeeters most warm evenings.  It's not enough.

We get a bunch of mosquitoes here during the summer...  which is about 9 months per year....There have been times when I would have to tie a cloth over my mouth and nose to keep from choking on the buggers....Dry years are not so bad.. as far as the mosquitoes go....

Purple Martins are also a good deterent to mosquitos on conjunction with the bats. Martins by day and bats by N I G H T.
I still love that super bowl tabasco commercial.

Oh yeah, my subdivision neighbors would love that.  Then I'd get my own little room (and board) on the County, until my sentencing.

gals, only female mosquitos bite you.

it's for breeding purposes, it doesn't take much for a mosquito to live a little fructose and they are all set. however the female needs the enzymes in blood to reproduce.

Well, between the DEET and the insecticides, you are probably killing yourself long before any mosquito could..... ??? Cool

In NY I built a Martin house. It works, but, Martins tend to fly too high if the landscape isn't wide open. I like watching those little critters do what they do.
I then built a couple bat houses. They work, but, bat populations are in trouble. They aren't afraid to whiz around at low altitude and are neat to watch. It does tend to freak out some friends when they stop over at night and we sit on the patio cooking marshmallows while these little buggers whiz around. We do have a West Nile issue in a large swamp near the area yet the tree huggers are fighting attempts to work on this.
In Florida I plant Eucalyptus and spray it mixed with some lemon. But, those damn no-see-ums bother more than the skeeters. The state does a good job where we are with their spraying schedules. Now, there is starting to be a Dengue fever problem and the state wants to introduce what some think of as 'GMO' skeeters to eliminate that particular specie. They are nothing more than sterile males which have greatly reduced populations in other countries after a few breeding cycles.
Biting bugs love me, must be because I'm such a sweet and lovable person. I refuse to dress for them or use bug repellant, hate the stuff. Maybe if I catch the fever I'll change my mind, but, not until.

I have 4 of those electronic zappers around my house.      1 on each side and the 1's in the back get all the business.   I empty the trays daily and the back always has a bunch that covers the bottom.    The others have maybe a 1/2 full bottom.

You can be out there Bubba Queuing and it is a constant zap zap zap zap zap zap.    I only shut them off in the fall and winter.   Otherwise they run 24/7.

Them little buggers must learn where the zappers are.      Neighbors have 4 times the # of them little bitch bugs flying around, my yard is loaded at times but in about an hour, it is pretty well cleared out and only an occasional zap.

Bug zappers are great until you get something the size of a June Bug get in there.
Then the critter starts buzzin/crackin, and it don't stop. It like goes on and on, your visitors
over for barbecue start to lose their lunch, watchin the critter fry.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that having tobacco burning in your mouth also helps keep them away from your face.   Grin

We had a zapper and called it, "The Arena".
When the bugs got too bad, to gave it to the neighbor.
He put it up and I had no bugs. The UV light attracts em, to his house.
eat garlic,,,,,lotsa garlic.

Next time you're in the keys, if you haven't already, you ought to go check out the bat tower on Sugarloaf.  Its over behind that little airstrip there.

Yes they do, literally.  I'm not a fan, just tired of snow / winter right now.
