Non-Valk related

I have already asked myself 68 times, "What the hell are you thinking!"

After my garage build two years ago and all of my much-supported-by-her Valkyrie proclivities, we have embarked on what my wife JoJo has been patiently waiting for, for many years....

A kitchen/living room re-model! ( Yayyyyyyy  Undecided )

Here's where we've gone so far....

This area used to be a cherry paneled wall with built in bookcase and fireplace with stone mantel and surround. Used the $74 Harbor Freight rotary hammer and busted it all out. Closed off the fireplace and put up new drywall.

Was going to hire out the finishing, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Wasn't as hard as I thought. This is before final sanding. Came out pretty good for a rookie.

The living room is getting new carpeting, painted the baseboards white, and the will have new white crown moulding. JoJo also painted all the bedroom/bathroom doors white (and frames), added brushed nickel knobs and hinges. The hallway off the living room will get new carpeting as well.

Now on to the kitchen....

Ripping out the 60's cabinets as well as the bulkheads above the upper cabinets. Those damn bulkheads could survive a tornado, hurricane, and tsunami combined... never saw anything so overbuilt.

Was like an "archaeological dig of tacky".... kept finding some questionable past decorating decisions....

At one point the walls were "baby sh*t" brown"

Or my favorite, "pepto pink"...

Flower basket wallpaper....

Found out the electrical was willynilly in parts so decided to take down some walls as well.... glad we did, found some scary stuff....

 Undecided

 Shocked

Finally got it pretty much gutted... going to get my uncle the electrician over to get the wiring right and get the boxes up where we want them. And then going to drywall it.

More to come...

I'll also be interested in seeing the finished project. Just don't get discouraged, looks like a big job ahead.

The big mistake here was letting her know you actually had these skills and energy level.   Grin

Course the garage showed that.

Better you than me brother.  My house could use a good deal of that, and my solution is to just keep the lights low.

Best of luck Pete, and watch out for your fingers.  cooldude

Yep, you always seem to find something scary.

At least you like to use good tools. Milwaukee.
