I discussed with you guys about a month ago as how my 2000 IS felt loose in the front end during slow speed maneuvering, how when I turned it felt like steering bearings were loose. I still have the front fairing off and today had time to play with the bike again. I took the front wheel off and notice when I hold the fork slider with one hand and the fork tube with the other I can get movement, can wiggle them back and forth if you will. Not much but a definite sloppyness in both forks like maybe a bushing is wore. I have no experience with working on forks, my main question is, should there be any slop there? It feels like enough to cause my loose problem.
Just checked again and the left fork seems way more noticeable than the right, also the left is easier to push in than the right. Had a sorta friend and motorcycle mechanic install new progressive springs, sliders?, seals, and oil about 12,000 miles ago??  opinions please  Thanks Firefighter

cooldude Most likely!   Undecided  I would also make sure the volume of fork oil is correct.

But even dry there shouldn't be play in the fork slider within the tube. I would also check the torque value on the steering head bearing.

I am readjusting the head bearings now. Think I will try and overhaul the forks, never done that before!

Thanks for response,, Firefighter

Wow Uturn! That's too cool!  I need to order parts, and will try myself first I guess, as I have done most everything else myself, just never worked on forks before. My make shift shop lacks a vice which I probably will have to get, right? I also never know how much time I can devote at any one time. But if I mess up or can't figure it out maybe I can come your way. Hope to start having more time to play in the future.  Thanks so much, Firefighter

If you're not swapping the springs the fork bushings and seals are a piece of cake.search utube for valk or vtx fork bushings and you'll find a few tutorials that shows how easy it is.It's bit more work  to swap the springs but I think it was worthwhile.
