A Near Death Experience

Hi guys,
I had listed my 2001 Standard for sale on Craig's List previously. Just feel like it's time for me to sell it. I am looking for a reasonable offer.
Jan. 7th, I was in my usual Wed. morning spin class and had a cardiac arrest. I was feeling great; there was no warning. I Was rendered unconscious immediately  falling off bike and skinning myself up on way to floor. My classmates started CPR and, by God's Grace, a cardiologist had just entered the Y and heard the commotion and came to where I was and said "I am a cardiologist, can I help? The YMCA in Coppell had a defibrillator in house and he administered one shock that brought me back to a normal rhythm. The first thing I remember was looking up at the roof of the ambulance and asking where I was.
Bottom line, my incident is called a fatal arrhythmia; an electrical rhythm malfunction; not a heart attack.
I now have an ICD implanted in my chest to kick in and shock my heart back into regular rhythm if ever needed.
I had a follow up doctor visit yesterday and I and my device are both doing great. I feel good and am getting back to my normal life as I type this.
CA (cardiac arrest) out of hospital occurs about 400,000 per year in US. About 8% survive.
Had I been outside jogging, at home, at a store, etc. I would not have survived. 88% of CA's occur at home. My case was Divine Intervention, I am convinced. I have been given, in my case, a third shot at this life and I can't figure out why but I am grateful.

I personally don't believe in coincidence.  'Things' DO happen for a reason.

Dan, glad it all worked out - your guardian angel was working overtime!  I can't imagine how fortunate it was for a cardiologist to walk in at that exact time unless it was divine intervention.  With that going on, I agree with you it's time to hang up the saddle on the Valk.

So, do you remember anything from your time between the heart fart and the defib shock?  Since that kid recanted, maybe you have a story to sell.

No near death experience at all to tell.
I learned something about dying from cardiac arrest although to be officially deceased, brain function has to cease which, obviously, was not my case. I don't think my heart and lungs were stopped for but a relatively short time.
What I experienced is this: There was no awareness or pain at all; no bright light, no tunnel, deceased relatives, or others waiting, etc. No consciousness at all. Had I not been resuscitated, I have to believe that this non-awareness would continue through the actual death of the body. After this, my belief system says that I would have entered "the next dimension" So, dying from CA is the way to go.
Our real fears of death have to do with pain and suffering that accompanies end of life such as cancer, etc.
Also, our egos can't imagine the world continuing without us.

Hey Dan , I can relate to what you had experienced because back in October , me & the Wifey Lisa went for a ride and later stopped in a restaurant for some Tx Mex food ..... The next day Thur. I was Hurtin for certain , I thought I had food poisoning so I let it go for several days ..... The situation got Purdy painfully &  saw my Dr. finally  .... She put me in the Hospital right then for test & Cat scan .... They found my gall bladder was highly infected and developed Gangrene,  so I was getting Septic ..... The surgeon  said a Normal gall bladder procedure is 45 minutes ..... He came out almost 4 hours later telling my wife , had I waited a few more hours I would have not made it ...... Bottom line when your knocked out you have no concept of what's  going on in the conscious world ..... They had a priest on stand-by to give me the last rites ...... It gives a person an idea about death & dying , it ain't like the cartoons with the show of different fingers for the count .... Congrats on your recovery and enjoying another day Above Ground ...... Hey Dan , when I wake up I say Yipppppppeeeee I woke up !!!!!! Thanks the Geezer

Glad you're OK. Took my Valk out for a ride around the neighborhood yesterday; did my first spin class Saturday since incident. Life is good.

I can relate to your situation.  6 years and 10 months ago I drove to and walked into an urgent care while having a heart attack.  I felt bad but no pain. A friend convinced me to go to the urgent care, I was stubborn but went.  I scared the nurse to the point of her screaming for the doctor and she actually told me I was dying.  Long story short the Doc said I have a bad heart and roughly five years to live.  Going on 7 now and happy for it.  I still ride.  Still work.  Still pray for every day I had and for the next one.  Yes there is guardian angels and the good Lord above.
