What is your opinion of your state?
Has it gotten better or worse under Bobby Jindal ?
I like this state and it appears to be one of least expensive to live in. Wondering if I'm right or wrong.
Is the fishing and duck shooting as good as it used to be ?

Bobby has been good for the state.  He has been opposed by the Dems and Libs on almost everything, but has still stood his ground and drug the state forward.  The Hughie Long and Edwin Edward years are far behind us and things are much better.   I live in the West Central part of the state and love it here.  Three hours South or North are premium medical facilities, Houston and Shreveport.  The job market is improving and many of the cities are booming, I/E Lake Charles.   Cost of living is reasonable, and the housing market is good.  In the last 5 years, I bought a 5,000+ square foot,5 bedroom with 4 full baths and 2 half baths on 10 acres almost new home for 380 thou.  Hunting and fishing are great, but for hunting you need to get on a lease.  Used to you could hunt anywhere free, but that is changed now except for fed lands.  I am a native East Texan, and thought I would never live anywhere else, but am happy here.  My place is just 3 miles from the center of a nice town and about 17 miles from Ft Polk.  Good folks are plentiful around this neck of the woods.

Thanks. Thats good to hear. Its been a long time since I've been there and I really liked it. Was there to visit a service buddy whose family was in the duck call/hunting business [ no not that family]. Hunting and fishing was good, but, leases were getting common then and I didn't care for that idea either. But, its starting to take hold up here now, still don't like it.
The question I didn't ask was how they like us yankee's, but, thats OK.

Grab a beer and eat some crawfish when you get here... you'll be an "honorary coon-@$$" and your yankee problems are solved.   Grin

If you don't like crawfish, you can always substitute nutria rat, alligator, or squirrel.  cooldude

Kidding aside, I LOVE it down here... especially in the Lafayette area.  The only problem is that good motorcycle roads are a few hours away, so day trips for good rides are hard to manage.

Fishing and hunting are still good (aside from the price of hunting leases)... but read (STUDY) the rules as per Wildlife & Fisheries.  Seasons open/close at different times in different areas, and every lake has a different quantity and size limit on fish.   uglystupid2

Louisiana actually managed to miss the hardest parts of the 2008/2009 recession... so things are still OK economy-wise.  The oil field is slowing a bit due to the low price of oil, and that's a BIG part of the economy, but nothing major yet.  We shall see what happens there in the long run.

As in any place... you have good and bad.  To me, the good far outweighs the bad.
(I rode the bike to work every day this week and 4 of 5 days last week!!! Mid 60's today!!!)

Patrick, I had to check your profile before I answered you and it appears that you and I are about the same age or so. I was going to offer you an opportunity to come down and buy my place from me but I, like myself, do not want to maintain all this property. My place requires a younger family with a lot of energy. I live in the eastern most section of Louisiana with NOLA only 30 miles away but separated by lake Pontchartrain. We have a little bit better riding opportunities than the guys in the western part of the state but I love to ride over to that part because I lived in that area as a child (Crowly, Rayne etc.). We have more trees and it's a little hillier here. It's still not as good as upper Alabama and into the Smokies but it's all we have. I invite those guys from western Louisiana to contact me or Troutdude to ride our area. We'd love to host y'all. Hell, anybody out there reading this also has that invitation. DDT makes it through here a few times a year, so that ought to tell you something. Right?
