I disassembled my windscreen and noticed something I had not noticed before.
The Valkyrie windscreen frame mounting will topple in case of a frontal accident, hinging at the bottom. I always thought the top cut out was to adjust the screen, which is also true.
Better not tighten the top nut too hard.
Nice job, Honda.

What Beer said is very important.  I had a get off (low side) and when the engine guard hit,  the bike stopped!  I didn't stop as fast and therefore I went through the windshield.  I must have had the upper bolts too tight because it failed to swivel.  I even knew about that safety feature and didn't think I had them buggars tight enough to hold against a body hitting the inside of the shield, but it held, and I broke my hand busting through, it could have been worse though if I didn't have a full face helmet on (helmet was trashed from the windshield)

A couple things to think about.....upper bolt and full face if you run a large shield

I know my 1991 Yamaha FJ1200 had nylon screws holding the clear part of the windscreen on.  The idea was that they would shear off in the event of a head on collision.  I only found out about it after I broke one when removing the windshield one day.

WOW! I never knew that. I have a Memphis Shades wind shield but it's cut the same way. I have an adjustment to make before riding in spring.
Thanks cooldude

When my top bolts aren't tight, I've notice I can move the windshield. It's
not like I see it moving when I'm riding, I just notice it moving when I'm
cleaning the bike or something... maybe I better loosen them back up...

Be sure the OE "center spacer" washer is present on the top attachment points.

I misplaced one a while back & replaced it with a flat SS washer on both sides so as to be a match.

It never occurred to me that this was a safety feature, but just an adjustment point and to facilitate eaisier removal.

I'm ordering the proper washers next week.

I suppose there is a critical torque setting?

I'd noticed the cut out, but had not thought of the safety aspect.  I'll be checking the bolt tightness on mine.  Boy, there's a lot of good info on these boards!   cooldude

Speaking as a man with too much experience on crashing bikes,  Shocked I would just as soon hit the windshield as the ground or anything else.  I really don't believe it is a safety feature as much as making a one person removal or install the of the windshield easier.  Hoser
