I'm blown away by this. I never dreamed that an archer could be this lethal. The very last thing he does in this video is mind blowing.

I'm pretty good with a gun, but I sure wouldn't want to go up against him in an alley.

Actually, the right side rest makes perfect sense to me.   When I was much younger, I had a cheap re-curve that had no rest on the grip.   Not having any instruction from anyone in the know, I fired from the right side, using my left thumb as a rest.   I got pretty good at hitting my target,  just because nobody had taught me the proper way to shoot.   I drew the arrow from the quiver, swung and placed the arrow in one smooth motion, drew and fired.  This guy is amazing, and it is to his credit that he has been able to resurrect an art that was literally  lost by the formalization of archery technique.  And, hell no.  I wouldn't want to go against him even if I had a semi-auto.

At 4:20 he shoots from the back of a motorcycle. So now it's motorcycle related.  Grin

People who truly master almost anything (esp weapons) are amazing.

Looking back to the very beginnings of firearms like early crummy matchlock smooth bores (which were certainly less accurate than bows in skilled hands), we discover that the principle reason they took hold was that common peasants could be trained to adequate marksmanship in a relatively short time.  Whereas it took maybe ten years to become a master archer like this guy.  This became even more important when lunatics decided to put millions of men in the field in the world wars.

I'll still take my AR with 30 rd mags and optics, and do my best to take this guy at long range before he even sees me.   In an alley with no cover, I think I'm throwing my hands up.

I can't remember the name of that gun show, where they had the archery shootist one week, and then the SAA guy the next. Named after a magazine, Guns??

He did some wonderful shooting with a long bow (if I remember right). Hitting an aspirin thrown into the air, splitting a card , etc.

That "Archery Ninja" statement came to mind for me too... The guy has some real skill that he has certainly mastered over years of practice.  The guy looks very "unassuming" until ya put a bow in his hands... cooldude

Thanks for that post!!   cooldude       Makes you wonder what ancient archery battles may have been like.  Perhaps nothing like we have ever thought.

The guy you may be talking about is Stacy Groscup...I went to see him shoot one time over in W.Va., Treasure Mt. Days in Franklin, W.Va.....got to talk to him a little bit and learned this....he was elderly at the time but still very accurate with his bow, he use to teach Army Rangers how to shoot...he also said it was impossible to make these type of shots with a compound bow, nice guy to talk to, sat on the tailgate of a pickup and talk for a good 30 minutes and showed us his arrowhead collection...
