Quick question on rear brake pedal play

How do I reduce the freeplay in the rear brake. Right now I feel that the travel on the rear brake pedal is more that I want.

First check the pads, make sure they aren't worn out, then make sure you have fluid, then you can make fine adjustments under that chrome cover by the right drivers foot peg

Just rebuilt the rear caliper last night. Pads have plenty of meat on them. Filled and bled rear brake line as well.

Have you pressed the brake pedal hard a few times (you don't have to be riding)?

Look at the plunger at the m/c and observe the movement.

It could be there is still a bubble of air in the system.

The plunger should not move very much at all. Too

much movement would indicate an air bubble.

A little off topic but my tail light will not work with the pedal just the hand front brake ??? and ideas on hoe to remedy this (not that its a huge deal)

Check your brake light spring to see if it is still attached to the brake pedal.

The pedal stays up.... it just wont activate the brake light

Little spring between the brakelight switch and the pedal. Adjust by turning plastic nut to move switch back to tighten spring unti it moves enough to close contacts when pedal is depressed.

Freeplay is adjusted by removing chrome cover by pedal.  Adjust rod length from pedal to master cylinder to add or remove freeplay.

Got it working right. Looks like there were some bastard air bubbles trapped in the line. Zip tied the pedal overnight and everything is back to normal. Thanks.

Nope.  There is no adjustment for freeplay in the foot brake pedal.

Any observable freeplay would be from the connections themselves wearing out.

The adjustment referred to is for adjusting the foot brake pedal up and down.

A close inspection would reveal this.

An additional note on this topic...
The rear brake pedal adjustment can make it "more or less" sensitive to your rear braking input.
Locking up the rear tire accounts for the loss of control of many "panic" situations.   :'(
The biggest lie in motorcycling is "I laid it down so I wouldn't crash". The actual reason they laid it down is because of locking up the rear wheel, causing loss of control of the motorcycle, and then crashing because of the improper braking techniques. Think about it folks.
To adjust the brake pedal "down", will reduce the brakes sensitivity to input and therefore require more pressure to lock up the rear tire.
Bottom line here is that because it takes more pressure to actually lock up the rear wheel, you will be safer because you didn't loose control from locking up the rear wheel.  :)
Before I get a bunch of "Hate mail and flaming death" replies, go and try it and understand what I'm saying here. Think about how easy it is to lock up the rear wheel in the emergency braking situation...or otherwise.
I personally have mine adjusted about one inch lower than stock. I'll take any bit of advantage I can get when it comes to preventing a crash.
